John A couple of things to note: First firing flack into the air to destroy incoming fire is not the same as firing en masse at stationary ground targets. Second, most archery attacks were not sustained volleys for the entire duration of a battle, they were normally opening volleys or intermitten sh...

John, May I suggest that you do some further reading concerning medieval warfare and archery. I would also suggest that you actually engage in a battle or two where CA is being used extensively before settling upon a particular opinion. Also I would like to see a bunch of "noobs" (That is really an ...

So if you don't like CA in the SCA, how do you feel about Siege Weapons such as balistas?

Swordwork East vs West

Instead of comparing samurai and knight in armour, what about out of armour.
Talhoffer, Fiore, etc compared to Musashi, etc.

Magnus,
I finally got to see the pics.
If you do not want to upgrade your kit, make a soldiers cote of the mid to late 15th century. There are some fine examples in Embletons book of Medieval Soldier.

Freiman, I do not think it is a failing on your part. That is my point exactly. Even though you may admire a person's skill, if you don't have at least some respect for them, what can you really learn? There are some people out there that I know are real good swordsmen, but that I would never want t...

The part that confuses me is that you did your level best to slam someone and then you turned around and said that you would go to them for fighting guidence. Why do you learn combat (Hijacked Malcom thread )

BTW- in terms of fighting skills, thats all I would come to you for guidance in, so that is all I have to respect about you, and I have already made my opinion of that plain. This statement spun my head. How do you expect to learn from someone if you cannot fully respect them? What the hell ...

Oddball fight situations or what was I/they thinking?

So what was the oddest or silliest combat situation you have personally been in, where either during or after you have to ask "What was I thinking?" Or "What were they thinking?" Couple of months ago I was involved in a bizarre rapier melee that was taking place in a "town" and we also had surgical ...
