Kevin, If you look at this pic: http://www.caerdubh.com/armour/marion7.JPG You can see three square holes, one on the top, and one on each side. The face plate has catches that fit into each hole and secures it very well. I'll try to get some more pics of them up soon. <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" fac...

The marshal commented on the fact that they were more than an inch wide, and you could see that the bars were bent. Looked like someone had driven a spike into them.
Things that make you go hmmmm

Armour safety & authorizations

So now that I found out that there are some marshall's who fail items because they are too pointy, I got to thinking. One of the fighters last weekend had a very rusty helm with several of the bars bent in the grill, so that they had more than a 1 inch gap. Now if my gauntlets get gigged for being t...

There are a number of different styles of under garments for armour. It depends on how much you want to do, also I would look at the type of armour you are actually wearing compared to what your persona is supposed to be wearing. Some things work better than others if you are wearing a CoP or a cuir...

Tom Justus/Master Eldrid review (Marion Helm)

The same time that I bought the bellows visored sallet I also got a combed marion helm for fencing. (I love my wife!) It is a blackened marion helm common from the late 16th century well into the 17th. Like his other projects this one is also of extremely high quality. It is blackened to help agains...

Tom Justus/Master Eldrid armour review(Sallet)

A long time ago Tom Justus made a bellows visored sallet that was suitable for SCA combat. I had seen it many times on his website but was only able to try it on at Saphire Joust this past year. Long story short, I bought it. Tom is very laid back and knowledgeable and it was his attitude and workma...

And yet, most SCA fencers have no clue about the capabilities of epees and schlagers. The look of surprise on a person's face when they lunge into my thrust and then cry out, "Hey that hurt!" Rapier and the Atlantian blatant modern rules

A couple of weeks ago there was a flurry of posts concerning how the SCA rapier community does not take it self too seriously, what with the barney dinosaur parrying weapons etc. Which got me to thinking. When the new rules regarding blatantly modern items on the field being banned in December; Woul...

The sallet helm and interchangable visors came to about $1000 (The original bellows visor and a bar grill version). When you pick it up it feels like a ton, but is so well balanced when you wear it.

I have worn the gauntlets in combat before, both at Atlantian events and at Pennsic. I don't feel that the marshal was trying to be dickish about it, and it is kind of hard to argue with the logic when the King puts the gauntlet cuff through a bar grill, while wearing them. The funny thing was that ...
