Good question.... Now I guess I need to answer it huh? *I* want to do the military impression, but I don't want it to be exclusively military, since my wife wants to play as well and she don't do sword stuff. I have contacted a couple UK groups like britannia and [urlhttp://www.comitatus.net/]comita...

Interest in a 5th Century Reenactment group?

I've been asked to gauge interest in a 5th Century reenactment group here in the US. The group is to be primarily focused on 5th Century England (yeah, I know it wasn't England yet, but you know what I mean ) and would be centered in the southeastern US (I"m in south GA). Is anyone else interested? ...

My personal favorite is The Battle of Hastings by Stephen Morillo. It's really more of a collection of articles, but it covers a wide variety of subjects and is easily read by those of the short attention span (like me ;))

don't feel like you have to rush onto the field just because others say they did and that you should. DO put together a kit that you can really be happy with and that is comfortable to wear. It greatly increases your enjoyment. Don't keep trying to reinvent the wheel. When in doubt, look at what wa...

That's my long term plan Stephen, since the maille will hide the required backplate of the helm.

But right now I'm just looking at prices. Anyone do spring steel?

That's a nice helm, but it looks a bit later than what I am looking for. The type I am wanting has the bottom part of the face plate dished somewhat, and a slightly bowled top as well, though not drastically so. I just wish I had a scanner so I could post a picture of what I'm wanting :(

Shopping for Early 13th Century Greathelm (SCA)

I think the topic says it all. I'm looking for something like the early great helms, just about the point that they started putting backplates on them. Of course, I want it SCA legal (hence the "SCA" in the topic ). Anyone know where I can look? I want mild steel, 14 gauge would probably be ideal, b...

Documentation can be found in Dr Fullof Ight's book Feline Martial Arts of the 12th Century, published in 1987. On page 137 it begins to detail the use of "clawes". This work is based heavily on Mortimer Katte's work from the 12th Century called "Thye Kittye of Doom"

I used to be an American Civil War reenactor. I was with the 2nd GA Artillery before I turned 16 and started to play with the 4th GA Infantry. Since we (myself included) spend a great deal of time complaining about the lack of authenticity in the SCA, I thought it would be fun to see what folks would do in this hypothetical situation.
