Armour for Ladies
After watching Return of the King, my wife is toying with the idea of suiting up and taking the SCA combat field. To that end, I'm looking to start planning her kit. She has said she wants to leave it in my hands, with her having veto power (so that ruled out teh Xena armor....damn it!) so I need to...

There is an alternate title website that is linked from the SCA's main page. It has accepted alternate titles for many different persona. That would probably be your safest bet. They may not be historical, but for the SCA they work. Bran ------------------ Courage is not the absence of fear, it's th...

Gwynneth, I know about what your husband is going through, because my wife and I just saw the movie last night and now my wife is thinking about fighting! My advice is to talk to established female fighters. Since you've been around a while, I know you already know them in your area. Also, don't let...

I think the biggest threat to the SCA is the idea that I have heard from some members about not wanting someone to join. Sure, they might be an ass. Sure, they might be stuck on D&D or Anime. I'm and ass, and I like D&D and Anime. I wish I could work a sword like some of those characters. I can't, b...

Man it was good to get back
Today, I fought for the first time in several years. I had a patch where I couldn't fight due to medical reasons, and then I had to get new armour together (Did you know that brigandine can shrink over time?? http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif ). The only thing I can say was... DAMN I MISSED ...

For me, it's always been a nice on-side snap right to the noggin! If you throw it fast, many people just don't defend it well, and they feel silly for getting hit there. However, you'll never be fast enough without proper technique which I didn't have when I first started http://www.armourarchive.or...

Looks to me like someone doesn't know what they have and are trying to convince you it's something different. For me, anything pre-firearm is cool. Personally, I think that guns destroyed much of what I love about medieval warfare. Sure, cannon's were used in the 14th Century, and handgonnes in the 15th, but when they started to dominate the battlefield, it just got boring for me. Needless to say, I'm easy ...

Personally, I can't comment one technique since you are part of a group that doesn't use SCA rules. There are particulars that I'm not familiar with in your system, such as the apparent ability to strike calves. That's below the target area for us. One thing I am usually able to do to a few people d...

I think that theoretically you CAN learn from someone that you don't fully respect, but I certianly don't think that you should go to someone you don't respect to teach you. I learn from people I don't respect all the time, but usually it's what NOT to do. As for going to someone to learn how to fig...

I've never personally heard any Atlantian boasting about force calibration, but I do agree that there is a perception about calibration. I think that is part of the reason for the "Thug" label.
