I'm actually surprised that, with the hard-on everyone here seemed to have, no one responded sooner. Glad to help. Addendum: Prince of Darkmoor would be a nice way to title it, and my coworkers know who it would go to, but I think just sending it to the attention of "Clay Edgin" would be fine http:/...

Right to Left Handed Coils - What's the Difference?
Well, I haven't gotten much in way of a good response on the chainmaille board, so I'll post here too: Does the term "right-handed coils" come from the fact that they are sometimes wound on a rod from the right to the left? Or does the name come from the fact that sometimes you wind them from the le...

Thanks for the info Colluphid. :cough: ass :cough: http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif I sat down this morning before you posted this and counted how many rings were in a coif top that fit me well. Coifs, expansions, blah, blah, blah
Okay, I know how to make a coif top now. I know how to make a mantle expand, but how do you guys do it? Links, etc. would be appreciated. I know there is more than one way to expand and contract rows, and I'm interested in learning them all so I can find what works best for me. Also, what are your o...

Soaking your rattan in antifreeze will make it like swinging a solid steel rod. Any time you treat your sticks with water and anything, your stick is going to get significantly heavier and harder to control. I let an axe handle sit in a bit of antifreeze and water and it nearly doubled its weight. T...

I broke a brand new set of bulldog snips in 20 minutes of snipping off 14ga rings. The lower jaw snapped damn near in half! I took them back to OSH (to the same clerk no less) and was met with questions like, "How did you manage to break a Craftsman tool so quickly?" I eventually exchanged them for ...

I've got the same problem in my vambraces, but I've come up with a solution. I just plan on putting a layer of blue close-cell foam in there to "fill" out the vambrace. If possible, you could look into trimming the edges of the vambraces (where they meet and are buckled) but that option isn't for ev...

This is a link to a rather nice Norman helm being raised from a single piece of 12ga steel. The armourer does use heat, but this tutorial really helped me get a better understanding of armouring.

There are various products on the market that you can use to soften leather. The first that comes to mind, and perhaps the most available, is the stuff that you loosen your baseball gloves with. It's a solution that you work into the glove to make it easier to move. Available at any sporting good st...

The Market of Maille - Some ?'s for the Vets
I want to get a feel for the prices of some maille products.
1) King's maille coif (3/8", 5/16" 16ga)
2) Regular coif (whatever ID and gauge)
3) Hauberk (medium-build person, 14ga, 3/8" ID)
Thanks

Where to put the split in a hauberk?
Alright, here we go: I've nearly got the hauberk done from shoulders to belt-line and I was wondering where I would put the split in the front and the back so that I could walk. I think you start the split in the middle of your zipper (or thereabouts). Then, how severe should I make the split? Shoul...
