Guys, I wasn't talking about using that stuff for combat - I was just referring to the weight difference. It really doesn't matter what gauge and ID you're using and I shouldn't have even mentioned it... The fact is that riveted maille rings are heavier compared to butted rings of the same gauge and...

What gets you pumped before a fight?
I know Templar Bob listens to Static-X to get pumped up before a fight (they *rocked* live, btw), but what do some of you others do to get mentally prepared to fight? I used to listen to music like Static X before fights but now I don't use that for my main inspiration because as soon as I get ready...

I also use rawhide mallets for just about every dishing project. I thought I'd be a big tough guy and try to dish out a 1/4" plate shield boss cold. Yeah, that worked out really well. I spent about 10 minutes whacking the hell out of the plate with a 3lb sledge and then decided to get the torch out....

Butted maille almost always weighs more than riveted maille of the same ring I.D. I don't know, Steve. Take 18ga 3/8" rings for example. A butted ring only needs enough wire to go around and meet up to the other butt, but a riveted ring needs more wire th...

Otto's Armoury (AR)
I just got my baskethilt and shield basket from Otto today and I am very pleased. This was in a trade for a stainless steel aventail I made a short time ago and had just laying around. We began correspondence about this trade on 2/26 and talked back and forth for a couple days. He said the baskets w...

Although I have never done this, I've thought about this a little bit. Perhaps if you had a bolt that was slightly bigger around than one of the finger holes, you could sort of jam it into the hole a little bit and then screw the bolt into the hole. I would think that the (for lack of a better word)...

What would you have your Apprentice do?
No, I don't mean like doing the dishes or walking the dog. If you had, or currently have, an apprentice, what would their duties be? We may be looking to have a friend of my sister's come by and learn how to do some menial tasks like deburring edges, drilling holes, and things of that nature. I've b...

It's just hard finding someone around here that will stick around more than a couple of hours. My sister has a friend who is going to come out this weekend and try his hand at this armouring nonsense. He's a little guy, so I guess we'll have to show him technique instead of "just bend it with your h...

1. Drilling through spring steel with a dull drill bit is the biggest waste of time next to watching paint dry. 2. 12ga stainless is a lot harder than I think it is. 3. Sharpies have a certain migration pattern but I have not figured out where they have all gone yet. 4. A shop isn't messy until you ...

1) Yes, format is fine. Except for the size of the thumbnails, but you already knew that. 2) Notes/instructions are helpful, especially to novices who don't have much experience and are curious where to start making a project. 3) Finished product pics are great. The more, the better. 4) I like the p...

There ya go. I checked out these myself when I was looking for a cost efficient way to get rid of the bodies piling up in my trunk. You know I can fit 11 bodies in there, no matter how I slice them?
