Thaddeus has a lot of the right of it, IMO.

One caveat. Using the edge is useful. The flat part is useful too. Use whichever part accomplishes your goal. The edge block (punch block) provides a "counter" effect when used for parrying, although it can be used to bind and re-direct too.

You have never made the one according to the plan? Perhaps a wiser decision would be to make that one first... Looking at the site briefly shows over 100+ pounds in the couterweight, which means it'll throw a good 5 lb rock or so... That will do significant amounts of damage... trust me And I'd like...

You can't hide in a tourney- this is true! 100%! Certainly you can. Carry a big shield. For me, asking melee or tourney is like asking chocolate or cookies. My answer would be "Yes please! Both!" Like Gorm, I did use to believe that they were, ahem, Member Length Comparison Contests, and I felt no ...

mrks, I found a lot of this kind of tape on Ebay: STRAPPING TAPE 3M #8934 which I did a quick google search on and found this page... m My question is, did you get/use the 8934 model (which looks similar to what we use from Wally-world) or do you use the much tougher 893,897, or 898 models? Ok, my turn to weigh in. I use both unpadded glaives (you don't get unpadded "polearms" IMO) and padded polearms. I'm a big fan of Captain Jamie's stuff because it allows you to create a realistic "look" to the weapon. Having said that though, I feel a couple of points are well worth noting: ⋅&...

Lots of good advice given here. The idea that you throw a regular flat snap first that is targeted a bit wide is key. The hand should move in a straight line towards a spot about 1 foot to the right of the target (for a righty) and then freeze in mid air at the moment when that imaginary spot one f...

I also think 3/4" is too much. I fought for two years with a 1/2" birch shield, and as long as you reinforce the shield edge, it will be fine.

IMO, MRKS has the right of it. The shot starts like the flat snap... the elbow is pointing towards the ground. As the arm fully extends, and you hit the point where you would start rotating the wrist, you lift your elbow up so that instead of pointing at the ground, it is now parallel with it. This ...

It will become imperative that your wife recognize this, and accord it a similar respect to breathing and eating, or strife and discord will mount.
