Thumb Design
You know, I've made 4 or 5 pairs of gauntlets know, and picked up and tried on many more.
The thumbs are always a problem. Why? I think because the mounting/attaching/construction method does not properly reflect the joint construction of the thumb. How could we more accurately reflect that?

Hardened Steel Gauntlets Finished
(Edit again to reflect the new web page) Well, I've finished the construction of the first pair of hardened steel gauntlets from Sir Alexis' pattern. You can click on the thumbnails to get a larger image. I'll probably take some more pictures tomorrow in the sunlight, as the gunblack makes it diffic...

Dmitry, Adam, I'm not. Sam, I agree with them. The tone of your post lack refinement, and come across badly. Additionally, you have a tendency to use the word "irregardless" which isn't a word. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Btw, could you quote the rules of the list which you are refe...

Other materials besides steel
When you guys need stuff like copper and brass, where do you guys get it from. I've done the "buy the brass kick-plate" method, and the brass is actually REALLY hard to work.

I bought the same one Jacob did, and so far I'm SUPER happy with it, although I've keep around my flap wheel sander since I can't do these two things: #1) Use the flap wheels. The 1725 RPM is to slow for them to work effectively somehow. I'm not sure why. #2) Sand extremely flat peices well. I can u...

Anyone ever worked in Nitronic 50 Steel?
One of my co-workers mentioned this steel, and so I checked it out. Was just curious if anyone had ever actually used it before.
http://www.suppliersonline.com/propertypages/nitronic50.asp
Its supposed to be really hard and extremely corrosion resistant.

Noe, I've done two of those things, and what occurs to me to make it work is that the edge of the top is slightly raised, i.e. the metal is compressed there, not stretched by doming (dishing) as the rest of the top is. If you've got access to heat, use that to hammer down the edge, compressing the m...
