I'm having a tough time ranking them. Ed and Tighearnain both have a good shot, Walrick has been pretty hot lately, I wouldn't put money down against Duke Mathghamhain unless I was drunk. I'm calling Lord Zhigmun(Zippy) as the unbelted dark horse though. I think he would have to bring his A game an...

Audax, to be a knight you have to be a leader, and an exceptional fighter with your chosen weapon. In Ansteorra, you also have to be a decent sword and shield fighter too But if you can take your best weapon out there, and hold your own with that weapon, you can still be knighter Sieur Jean Paul de ...

Hey guys, wanted to chime in. Regarding Sean's question, a thrown spear hits *on average* harder than an typicaly spear shot primarily because we tend to hit people with spears near the end of our range, and we (the person using the spear) are usually in the process of slowing the spear down so it d...

I'm right now dividing my time between the large heater and the landschnect shield I had made for me by some friends... I'm probably gonna talk to Johannes and have him make me a larger landschnect size shield that w...

Hey, ya think they hit hard at Estrella.. try going to Pennsic sometime.. some of the folks they have to ship by trailer to Pennsic hit like freight trains. I've only been to Pennsic twice, as opposed to 20 or so Burro Creek/Great Desert/Estrellas, so my data set may be skewed, but my experience of...

Maybe it was made to look period Iean was up this week and we were studying the new churburg book. We were both really surprised at how "off" things were. Both of us had always been under the impression that most historical armor was "close to perfect" while in fact the super closeup pics that make...

Sir Jean Paul, Glad that you enjoyed it! It was a fantastic Crown Tournament overall...it was a very cold day, though (about 35 degrees). I'm about to remake a DVD of the tournament with chapter breaks and the ability to slow down, zoom, etc. The DVD I originally made looks incredible on our big sc...

I've done a couple of things in 4130, and I tend to transmission fluid (same as oil) quench. I don't typically need to temper afterwards like I do when I water quench. I've never needed to brine quench. I use .032 and .040 for my stuff, which works out to 23 and 21 gauge or so. I've had a pair of ha...

Regarding RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate), I went and took one of those tests this monday. It was *extremely* informative. After testing my RMR was 2310 calories a day. I was impressed. I didn't think it would be that high. It also (to me) explained why I had sooo much trouble on Weight Watcher's 1300...

As the Earl Marshal of Ansteorra, I can safely say, elbow cops are required in Ansteorra. And due to the prevelance of the "open high style" in our kingdom, the shield as held does not *TYPICALLY* protect the elbow. I hit a shield elbow this weekend at a regional practice. I intend to run a poll nex...

granted. but last count i had there were nine or so kingdoms in which fighters fight with naked shield elbows. so, im going on 20 years + 5 (to be safe) kingdoms and guessing each of those five kingdoms have at least three or four hundred fighters in any year. i think thousands is easily done. too ...

hardly. in the last 20 years atlantia alone has fought with naked shield elbows and unpadded aventails. i think if you add the authorized fighters in atlantia over that period of time you will approach my offered numbers. now add all the other kingdoms that do the same and i think my figure is very...

cool. you may want to mention to him that many kingdoms disagree that this is an old rule. but, regardless, lets say it is an old rule and that our take on it has been wrong. lets say then that a hard elbow has been required for the last 20 years behind a shield. given that, what sense does it make...
