You chased me down with your brute squad in the meanest mother melee Since my wife was frequently behind the camera, I'm in quite a few I'm the one with the round shield in P6150148, and the series from P6130005-P6130022 are some of my fights in the Rose tourney... Right on!!! I know which one you ...

A fighter with two swords kind of knows that if you have a spear, that's where you are going, so if he's good, you are not getting that thrust, he has a cross-block prepped and ready. Feel out which arm is most likely to move, fake thrust to center, hook around to the blocking arm that is now movin...

Irish, Cool, you made a good call. I can respect your right to not like the unpadded pole arms. I really don't like the power needed to get people to call the MUSH of the padded heads. Just so you know, I made a padded bill hook so I can fight with it for a while to better understend the mechanics ...

Uuic, That's easy, if it hit you it wasn't a spear shaft. You can't strike with a spear. Does not make any less the fact that I have been hit by the haft of a spear. Yah, cause you know, an ash or oak wood shaft of a spear would have absolutely no effect to man in armour regardless of how hard it h...

Guys, This is getting even more embarassing. I couldn't sleep the night before my wife went into the hospital, and posted a stupid post. I paniced. This has turned into a full fledged discussion, and I would really be thankful if it could just drop off the bottom end of the board. Now, if the purpo...

I would be interested to see how you would armor your arm pit such that you would not worry about taking a shot there - while still being able to move. I would bet it would be cheaper and faster for you to get a new helm that was 2 gages thicker. Armpit? where's the danger there? I never worry abou...

And our swords don't look like sword. Our swords may not look like a sword exactly, but they do not get confused with other types of weapons based on their shape either. That's because we've all been trained that "this is a representation of a sword". Not because they look anything like a real broa...

Corby, you forgot your "rant" label for this one, but I guess its' kinda of obvious Ok, I've mentioned this opinion in several threads, but no one has risen to the bait. Irish, here's what I've done over the last year: 1 hour fight till you drop. Number of fights going at one time is equal to the number of non-puking fighters divided by 2. 15 minute "what I saw" circle. All of our fighters get in a circle and point out in a sentence or less what they saw about the o...

My opinions: #1) Polearm is the second most effective weapon style in the SCA. A polearm fighter of good skill level should best all other weapons styles apart from sword and shield. Florentine, great sword, and bastard sword should all fall to you. #2) A polearm should have all 4 parts, or it's cri...

Corby, there are even easier answers than that. Go to a used sporting goods store. Buy a used batting helmet. Cut off the brim, and cut the remainder in half. Rivet leather tabs onto it and then rivet those to the shield. You now have TWO (count em) TWO light plastic hand protections (which you can ...

honest opinion time Well, your chest and waist measurements are bang on for a Medium, so you're fine there. You're a bit shorter than the average I built these for (5'8"-5'10"), but we can make a Short as easily as the Long, so that's no problem. You have a tiny pooch at the waist, but it shouldn't...

well, looking at the statistics, average size of that selection was 25"x20", with a 4" standard deviation for both height and width. So you could definitely say that 68% of them were between a 29"x24" and a 21"x16" shield. Really, that's only about 75% of our stand 36"x24" size... I get different r...
