Re: RIVETS

Where do you get rivets for armor making and what do you use to cut the metal? For quick and dirty, roofing nails work very well. they are tinned, and can be peened over extremely quickly, cut to the appropriate length, and are very, very cheap. I get the 1/8" ones cause they fit the holes of my pu...

Re: tool dip

i have used tool dip to its (IMHO) best effect as a covering agent/sheath for thrusting tips both in and out of the SCA. it comes in a variety of colors, does not damage compression, and holds up reasonably well if a little bit less than tape and alot less than leather. I feel it is a technological...

Re: [SCA] In the summer, How long do you last

Last night we had an outside Baronial Fighter Practice. I arrived and was armed and armoured by 8pm and fought with a few breaks until 9pm. By the end of the night i was drenched but not exhausted. I was after 15 minutes out of armour ready to fight again. So my question to the Archive. How long do...

Has any one else seemed to notice that how good or fun a fight was, is direct and inverted proportion to how well one does? You hold your own and the fight was OK. On another note, halfswording as skill only make sense when you have armour that can resist the blows of the weapon swung normally. Otherwise, why give up the range? In the SCA since we are all victim to "assumed armour standard" special tournaments would have to be constructed for the practice to g...

Either I am misunderstanding the response, or I misspoke my previous post - The 9 lbs to which I refered, was to the 1050 helm that I recently built. Most SCA helms that I have felt/weighed, are in excess of 13 lbs. That is near a 30% reduction in weight, which is a chunk, at least for a helm. The ...
