Re: RIVETS
Where do you get rivets for armor making and what do you use to cut the metal? For quick and dirty, roofing nails work very well. they are tinned, and can be peened over extremely quickly, cut to the appropriate length, and are very, very cheap. I get the 1/8" ones cause they fit the holes of my pu...

Re: tool dip
i have used tool dip to its (IMHO) best effect as a covering agent/sheath for thrusting tips both in and out of the SCA. it comes in a variety of colors, does not damage compression, and holds up reasonably well if a little bit less than tape and alot less than leather. I feel it is a technological...

Re: [SCA] In the summer, How long do you last
Last night we had an outside Baronial Fighter Practice. I arrived and was armed and armoured by 8pm and fought with a few breaks until 9pm. By the end of the night i was drenched but not exhausted. I was after 15 minutes out of armour ready to fight again. So my question to the Archive. How long do...

Re: Good fight
Has any one else seemed to notice that how good or fun a fight was, is direct and inverted proportion to how well one does? You hold your own and the fight was OK. You loose like 80% in pickups and it was fun or a good fight.. you get your ass handed to you by duke so&so (or any one else) and it wa...

On another note, halfswording as skill only make sense when you have armour that can resist the blows of the weapon swung normally. Otherwise, why give up the range? In the SCA since we are all victim to "assumed armour standard" special tournaments would have to be constructed for the practice to g...

Single sword resurrection melees this year at Ansteorra's 25th Anniversary. Its me and Tarquin fighting about 5 other people... we're giving ground step by step, and acquitting ourselves well. Roland, Thanks for all the feed back. I'm pretty sure we're going to adjust the tooling on the lowPro tips for the next run. It should help with the tearing on the black ones. It won't hurt the reds and will probably just make them last all the longer. Drop me a e-mail with your address and I'll se...

--snip other peoples stuff-- Thrusting in tournaments (as opposed to wars) has almost always annoyed me-- not so much because I occasionally got dinged by a thrust, but because the technique generally looked like sh*t on the field. The lighter the convention to take a face thrust was, the less aeth...

Yes, I have done some pretty deeply formed knuckle plates for gauntlets. If I could ever figure out how to post a picture I could show you. So far I have yet to have a problem with warpage even with complex curves and thin metal . I don't know if the 4130 is just more forgiving than a straight carb...

I've fought in my .032 (21 gauge) hardened & tempered 4130 legs for several years, now. I'd say it makes it *easier* to call shots. The spring effect of the steel means that a light shot is hardly felt at all, while a hard shot is easily felt, since the metal moves in and contacts leg below. Howeve...

If you had to move to Ansteorra, the place you'd want to move would either be Ft. Worth (Elfsea) or Houston (Stargate).... Elfsea gets you Drake, Timo, Romanius, Gunther, Duncan, et al plus your close enought to Steppes which gets you Miguel and Mahadi. That's 8 crowns right there. Houston gets you ...

Either I am misunderstanding the response, or I misspoke my previous post - The 9 lbs to which I refered, was to the 1050 helm that I recently built. Most SCA helms that I have felt/weighed, are in excess of 13 lbs. That is near a 30% reduction in weight, which is a chunk, at least for a helm. The ...
