whalebone/walrus armour
Jason Grimes can give you some info on uses of whalebone and walrus ivory use in armour....from what I've learned (I'm a big fan of organic armour, and have researched it a bit) its primary (and possibly only use) is in lamellar. Jason has photos of lamellar plates made of either whalebone or walrus...

Hey Stonekeep, your armour is crap . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . You state right in the beginning of your site what your armour is, and who its geared for...and personally, I think its a great thing youve done, and I respect you more for it because you flat out say what it is...you dont try and pa...

If he's looking at extant pieces and copying them, he does so about as well as a busted up Xerox machine. Some of the Indian pieces made by back alley metalworkers who've never seen a real piece of antique armour in their lives can pull off a better job. I'm almost positive thats just a line he uses...

Cool. The various Meso-American warrior cultures fascinate me, as do their tactics/strategies and equipment. Feather armour....never even thought of that..... Hey, if any of you are interested, I also started this thread on Arador, and its gone a slightly different way than here. Here's the thread: ...

Good point Thomas. I've been wondering what kind of facilities there were in Scandinavia for beekeeping...since mead figures so prominently in their culture and literature, but I havnt as of yet read any instances of it in the Sagas...would every large farm have had a modest beehive perhaps? Or woul...

I think its funny that everyone seems to think EVERYONE wore armour in ancient/medieval times. Armour was as rare and expensive to soldiers then as high tech ballistic and SWAT battle gear is to us today. Only the head honchos had armour....the rank and file mustered infantryman was lucky if he had ...

black generitunic for Faire or LARP wear
It's just a piece of homemade garb I've had hangin around for the last 10 years almost...sized about XL-XXL...has a small Porche like coat of arms patch sewn onto the breast. Not exactly sure what its made of, its pretty lightweight...cotton/poly blend most likely. I'm not able to post pics however....

Anyone know if the Azte...

The only info I know about containers is what little I've read about the various Oseberg buckets, and then there's no mention on how they were sealed, if indeed they even were....We know how ships were sealed, but I dont think buckets would have been done the same way...bees were quite common, so I'...

basically, horn prepared and treated the proper way is pretty much the equivalent of Dark Age/Medieval plastic. Its tough and springy. The benty Grange helm (I'm pretty sure it was that one anyways) reputably had plates of horn instead of iron filling in the bands, so if it was tough enough to provi...

Jason's lamellae were one of the reasons I got interested in organic armour...that and the fact I like to play realistic druids and barbarians and rangers in various RPGs, plus I'm just fascinated at what cultures can do with what little they have materials and tech wise. Not to mention the Viking influence on Celtic art. It's just important you let others know when the question is asked that you are doing so based on your own interpretation and not on hard evidence, be it archeological, artistic, or literary.
