Keltyck, what do you mean by you need plating also? dosent that defeat the purpose of having chain? Historically, you didnt need plate armour, it was a natural evolution of armour development, and as with any new and improved item, it was utilized whenever possible by those who could afford it. Tran...

Mail alone for SCA is NOT adequate, nor does it conform to the rules. Rigid protection (rigid is defined generally as plastic, aluminum, steel, hardened leather, etc) is required in key areas. Butted mail is also not sufficient protection vs real bladed weapons used full force; the links will split ...

Buying in bulk also helps...someone mentioned price break, its worth it to try and meet that. Get a bunch of your friends together that armour...especially SCA folks...buy enough for everyone, make a day of it...when you're done, kick back and have a few cold ones, then divvy up the spoils :D

Ya know, I think the Valsgarde and Vendel helms are some of the coolest fighting helms ever crafted from any age. And I'm bummed as all hell their style fell out of use in the Viking Age.

Someone club him like a baby seal so we can move on to the next travesty that shows up.

You dont have too. I stated an opinion, no more, no less. The SCA uses rattan because they cannot use steel weapons. If you can figure out a way to make some armour out of rattan, or wood, or bambo, and have it be protective and legal, more power to you. Plastic is fine by me, so long as its not gla...

I'm a fan of both organic armour, and early middle ages (500AD-1000AD) armour...to combine both is killer.
