Keep in mind that all the soldiers in this scene are caricatures, sloppily dressed. Perhaps the toggle on the braes is meant as a "poor man's buckle."

Re: Padding or lining inside chests

Kel- that's my sense as well. The project in question is destined to carry the tableware for Their Majesties of the West and I don't mind adding some purely SCAdian details so long as I can be honest about the utter lack of documentation. :) I believe someone else plans to make individual quilted ba...

Padding or lining inside chests

Has anyone seen evidence for the use of upholstery or textile lining inside wooden chests, particularly in the 14th-15th century? (Or any kind of furniture upholstery, for that matter?) I'm finishing up a box to carry pottery and am thinking of padding the inside.

Re: Shield trade for bling armouring work proposal.

When would you like to see it completed? I'm just starting my first attempt at adding engraved brass trim to an armor piece (retrofitting my hundsgugel visor). I'm hoping to get most of it done next week. If it turns out well and I think my ability is worthy of your project, I'll gladly throw my hat...

Re: wtb steel sword parts

I have a straight guard and a brazil-nut pommel taken off an old Norman-style sword that might work for you. The pommel is designed to screw onto a threaded "rat tail" tang so it needs to be drilled through if you want it properly secured. I suspect they're chrome-plated but you'd have to look very ...

Talbot used to, but I don't think he carries them any more. You might hit up one of the Ukrainian armorers- I've seen post-shaped steel vervelles on some of the import helmets.

Re: looking for a square of maille "fabric"

I have a strip taken off the bottom of a stainless pin riveted shirt that's about 47.5" long and 4" wide, though there's a few inches at one end that are 2 rows thinner. That could be cut into thirds or quarters and made into a square. If you don't have the means to do riveted links, butted links wo...

I am running an ad hoc troupe of 6 armored fighters to provide entertainment at a corporate meeting of some sort, to be held at a medieval-themed winery next Friday.
