Re: wanted to buy, hardened leater vambracers
I just emailed you pics, including in each shot a ruler or tape measure to show the different dimensions. Let me know if anything doesn't make sense. They're laced up the inside of the forearm with leather thongs, so the circumference is adjustable. The leather appears to be wax-hardened, about 1/4"...

Re: wanted to buy, hardened leater vambracers
I have a used pair of cuirboulli vambraces. I'm on my way out the door, but I can dig them out of the box and send you a photo with measurements a bit later today.

I don't know about the linen from the arming coat, but I'm pretty sure I have some of the same raw silk left if you need to extend the sleeves on the cotehardie.

Steve- the Charles de Blois doublet is definitely civilian. Even so, leg harness would scarcely require a center back point.

Re: Avoiding the 'Diaper' Look
Contrariwise, I think there's plenty of evidence for the continued use of single-leg hose (and "boxer brief" braies) well into the 15th century. It depends on the class and the fashion. If the tunic is long and loose enough to cover the upper legs, there's no need to have tight joined hose and a cod...

Char, do you have a decent hi-res image of the inside of the CdB? I could not see a center back point on the peplum the last time I went looking, but all I have is a crappy little 72dpi pic.

I'll be your huckleberry. I used to be a professional storyboard artist among other things, and I've done costume design (and did I mention I'm a garb laurel?). Send me your ideas, I'll have a look at them and see what springs to my mind.

Thank, Matt- seen 'em. My wife shuddered at the price tags, so the current scheme is I wear loaners and we build her an outfit from scratch. Just waiting for a friend's pattern to arrive in the mail.

Matt, you could pick up a cheap generic helmet of that form and pimp it out with the appropriate bronze fittings: https://www.quietpress.com/helms.html

Some lovely pictures, but the classified section is anemic. My queen would rather we stay away from Landsknecht portrayals for court participation, so I'm really looking for German civilian wear.

Re: LF leg wraps/ winnengas
Wood-n-Woven, seconded. I bought a couple of yards of Laina's diamond twill years ago, before she hit the big time, and turned it into a 13th century surcoat for my lady. The fabric was so awesome that I kept even the tiny scraps, and finally this year pieced together a Viking hat with them. I belie...

Thanks for the lead, looks interesting... but it appears to apply only to custom orders. I would be hesitant to drop that kind of cash on a merchant whose work I'm not personally familiar with and who can't fit me in person, and in any event, I don't see them turning it around in under three weeks.

http://thorthorshammer.com/bucklepage.htm Best in the business. All 3 of those she's selling look as though they could be turned into decent loaner helmets. My instinct is that the seller is a legit dealer in miscellaneous junk- thieves tend to use Craigslist.

Re: To wear a hauberk under plate or not, that is the questi
Noting that "pair" in the medieval context does not translate literally to the modern connotation of two, but more generally means a group or a set, as in a "pair of plates"... if sleeves are listed separately, and a mail skirt/fauld is a single item, what could a "pair of paunces" possibly be?

The first thing that comes to my mind is "The Kurgan," the villain from the first Highlander (which is in turn borrowed from the Russian / Ukrainian term for an ancient burial mound).

Re: Ballock dagger - sheath/belt attachment?
I have several daggers with leather sheathes, but my attachment method hasn't yet evolved past a loop of thong threaded through a hole in the back seam of the sheathe and then tied to the belt via a sort of lark's-head knot. It's fine if the knife is hanging loosely vertical, but doesn't give that n...

Re: To wear a hauberk under plate or not, that is the questi
My first time out wearing both mail and a breastplate, the problem I had was one of restriction and binding of my arm motion rather than weight per se. I got some colorful abrasions across my pecs and deltoids from the armor fighting me every time I moved my arms vigorously above shoulder level. I w...

I have no connection to the seller, but this appears to be a well-made set of mild legs in a munitions finish for some of you strapping 6-footers. The starting price is a bargain, considering the closed greaves. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Full-front-leg-armor-SCA-LARP-Adria-reinactment-armor-14th-centu...

Re: Metal splints for splinted arms and legs
The only period for which we have visual evidence of splinted cuisses is the 14th century, mostly the first half. There are a few depictions of rigid defenses that might be iron or cuirboulli strapped on over gamboised cuisses, but most of the time it's not possible to tell what is underlying the ar...
