Re: Decorative brass washers for armour?

I suspect you're going to see decorative washers or something like them on coats-of-plates, fabric-covered cuisses and the like during the transitional period.

Re: Decorative brass washers for armour?

Raymond's Quiet Press sells some small floral belt mounts that would work, though being cast, they are thicker and more sculpted than stamped washers. Scroll about 3/4 of the way down here: https://www.quietpress.com/later.html

Dibs on the gothic mace- outside my period, but I've always wanted one. PM sent with shipping address.

Also, the link to the Viking shield pic doesn't work.

Re: Interesting statue of St. Peter

My father is an art dealer and he agrees, Romanesque and possibly a treasure. He pointed out that the flat back and the weathered condition suggest a figure in an exterior niche. It might have been part of a larger composition, such as the attached example of Christ and the apostles.

Ben, I'd be curious to know your rates for this as well. Re: Surviving 14th century arming garment?

I agree that it's probably a translation problem, if the title is any indication. It translates roughly to, "An armor fragment from the early brigandine period." No suggestion of a gambeson there.

Likewise Poland. It was not entirely unknown outside the Empire and its sphere of influence- from England, we have a single surviving example (a stained-glass window) depicting a center-mount hundsgugel- but it was certainly the exception.

On Svan's website, the "Corrazina type 2 with green leather" is closer to the truth. The problem lies with the fauld. The infamous composed suit with the red-covered cuirass in the Met was cobbled together by Bashford Dean with a fauld made of large, vertically segmented plates, which pattern he pre...
