Re: I owe somebody money...
I salute you for your honesty, and offer a suggestion: see if you can find a merchant listing for Pennsic in '05 somewhere on the internets and see which armorers had booths that year. Seeing their names and wares may jog your memory, or you could get their contact info and e-mail your inquiry to th...

Re: selling my bascinet great helm combo
Nice rig, Brian! I think I saw you across the field at An Tir-West War one year. (You look even better compared to the generiSCAdians in the background!) Shame you have to unload the helmets. If I didn't already have a Pembridge and cervelliere pairing waiting for lining--and if I had the price of a...

Re: Coat of plates I haven't seen before .. help IDing?
In current re-enactment parlance, corrazina (which I believe is simply the Italian equivalent to cuirass, i.e., body armor) tends to refer to a fabric- or leather-covered breast-and-back arrangement which has a large globose breastplate made in two halves and fastening up the front with buckles. Bri...

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_oPERfJ6-04/UNMaDEgVixI/AAAAAAAAB-k/Gy_oDAobl2c/s800/12957.jpg I believe King Renée's tournament book showed breastplates of cuir boulli perforated in the same manner- probably for weight considerations, perhaps for better ventilation as well- but this is the firs...

Re: Late Fourteenth Century Arming Garments I: Caps
Wow, so many interesting things going on in that painting! The guy in the red hat appears to have his hair in a pony tail- as is the chap standing middle left in the red cuirass and the pink/green "ball cap." Then there's the braided pigtail (!) on the man playing dice in the lower right, and the ap...

Re: Late Fourteenth Century Arming Garments I: Caps
Since he is attending the king, the armored fellow in the large camp picture might also represent a sergeant-at-law or some sort of court official, a class of whom continued to wear the coif as a badge of office after it had fallen from everyday fashion (per Newton, p. 110). In fact, the king of Fra...

Yeah, they do seem much less flared than most other surviving examples. It makes sense that they were only made for looks.

Re: Black Prince Gauntlet Spikes
Answered my own question. It appears there are actually three slightly different pairs of gauntlets associated with Edward of Woodstock, as follows. The original ones that were part of his funerary achievement (B&W photo, left) have spikes on the first joints of the fingers, which I had never notice...

Re: Black Prince Gauntlet Spikes
If you can find the photo documentation, I'd love to see it, because that's not what I recall from the pics of Edward's funerary gauntlets. To my knowledge, they had round headed rivets circling the cuff to secure the glove, and gadlings cast in the shape of lions. Or are the gauntlets on his effigy...

Re: Steel legs on Ebay
May I be honest? The form sucks. Human legs don't look like that, and medieval armorers certainly didn't make stuff that crude. However, if you threw away the stovepipes that pass for greaves, the cuisse/poleyn set is probably worth a little more than the $30 starting bid as a get-you-on-the-field k...

WTB gadlings
I am doing final assembly on a pair of hourglass gauntlets and would like to accessorize them with gadlings. The finger leathers were formerly riveted to the insides of the knuckles on the metacarpal, but I moved them to a rocker plate so I need to fill up the leftover rivet holes with something, an...

Re: Ebay Helmet?
The bascinet looks like a GDFB piece or Indian-made at any rate, likely not SCA legal. The elbows, on the other hand, appear to have been raised in one piece with handmade buckles. I bet someone (not the seller) misses those, though maybe they were strapped for cash. Certainly worth bidding on. Judg...

What are the inner dimensions on the coat, what are the buttons like under the fabric, and are the buttonholes done by hand? As a foundation garment, it's way too big for me (5'7" and 150-ish), but I might could turn it into a jupon of some sort over my harness if there's enough slack to tailor in s...

Re: Pair of spring steel arms and a pair elbows for sale
I've been doing this for 30 years and I'm proud of my articulation. Rightly so. Max has taught me (nearly) everything I know about shell articulation, which has allowed me over the years to rebuild and upgrade many a piece of sub-munitions crap by other armorers. His stuff is well worth the money. K
