The problem is, that the titanium doesn’t hammer real well when it’s not red hot. You can slowly force it into shape though. I figured with a slip roller you could crank it though with a difference on each end. Like the left having a bigger gap than the right.

Kettle brim shape

What shape should the brim on a kettle helm be? Overall round or oval with the shape of a head?

The way I’ve always tried to look at new people buying armor is that no one is rich beyond their wildest dreams. In order to buy a set of armor you need to invest some serious cash. That being said, unless you’re buying plastic armor and a spun top helm, it’s not going to be cheap. I always te...

I know the problem your having. I also know that bringing it up in the Outlands is just about a waste of time. Some people listen and most of them ignore it. You see people with any form of armor out there, with anything else they want. From Gothic with a Vendel helm to an Eldar with a mohawk.

Does anyone have a good pattern on how to make a segmented and angled coronet? I'm going to try and make myself a nice one to go drinking in and I don't want to cut more titanium up without a good pattern. I found in place in town that will gold plate it a decent price. Put some silver "pearls" on i...

I don’t see the Indian armor even competing with American armor. Well except for the stuff Steve gets. All it’s do is filling in the niches of off the self armor. What does that do to the American Armorer? Well if he makes off the shelf armor it hurts his business if he does that mail order. If ...

I’m not trying for a mirrow polish on it. I just want to get the marks out and put a basic finish on the helmet.

Thanks for you help, I’ll head by Harbor Freight tonight and see what they got in stock.

Hopefully on Friday I can head out to the scrap yard and get some thicker gauge aluminum.

Polishing Aluminum and finding flap sanders

Polishing Aluminum and finding flap sanders After recently dishing out part of an aluminum helm and trying to sand and polish it, I’ve noticed that I can’t go from a 60 grit flap sander disk to an emery polish with a muslin wheel. It just makes the aluminum skidder around and look bad. I’ve fo...

Is this a munitions grade helmet we’re talking about? Or a really nice one? Considering how deep of scratches that put on your helm, I’d either suggest a sanding/buffing, not to worry about it, or sand by hand. I say that for a few reasons. If the scratches aren’t that bad, you’re work may b...

I’d feel comfortable waiting for long as I was originally quoted.

I’d fell comfortable as long as my emails went through and I was contacted monthly or if the wait list on the armorer’s web was updated at least monthly.

The metal in question is dead soft 18ga aluminum.

Ralph, I’m going to try the metal fork thing. That sounds like the best way or at least the easiest way.

The chisel, do you mean shape it as a round chisel like a coin edge? Or a round chisel like a maille ring?

What the article doesn’t address is how to do a roll on a curved edge. When I start the curve with a 1/4in chisel it comes out like crap. Anything larger and it’s not round.

If it was just a small round corner I think I could pull it off. But this is a large brim for a kettle helm.

Ok this weekend I tried to roll a round edge and came with results ranging from pathetic to really bad. How is that you roll a round edge? I know I need a round chisel, but what else? Any advice on how to go about it? I’ve read most if not all of the recent posts on this, but still can’t seem to...
