I suggest taking a look at some period illustrations or effigies that show bascinets of the style you have and see where the line of vervells falls in relation to the face. Usually this puts the vervell line about level with the lower lip/top of the chinat which point is angles upward stopping about...

I used to use a loose cotton wheel like these: http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/loose.htm
for polishing waxhardened leather.
A string buff like this: http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/stringbuffs.html
would probably work as well or better.

Thanks Mord! Thomas, thanks! My question is really whether 14th and 15th cemnntury arrow heads exhibit that type of construction? In other words, do the sockets have an open seam down one side. Rather than using the pliers you might try forming the socket aound a mandrel once it's been drawn out and...

arrowheads: construction details?
Can anyone suggest a source describing construction details of 14th/15th century arrow heads? I'm looking for small projects to try out in my newforge and thought period arrow heads would be an intersting challenge (and put me in good stead for when I can afford the longbow I want). I actually have ...

Ummm,.... Guys? The point is moot. The SEM says pushing with the haft is okay, striking is not. So, chivalrous or not, you can't "bonk" someone in the face with your haft to set up a follow on telling blow. Your right. I hadn't seen the SEM's response to your quesry posted earlier in the thread. I ...

HI Aaron,
I echo everything ASbjorn has said regarding the period use of halfswording. If you want to see some info on line check out this link:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/dieschlachtschule/
You might also want to try and find a copy of the recent TI with Count Rhys' article on halfswording in an SCA context.

Ok then what is excessive for a face thrust . What's excessive for a wrap to the head, or leg, or thrust to the gut? We don't have legislated rules for excessive force levels just prevailing local standards established by custom. The SEM's ruling, as I understand it, is to tell fighters what they s...

"My problem is that with my haft, I can deliver a leathal blow, given our standard armour, but it's not sporting." If you mean SCA armour standard you can't deliver a lethal blow with the haft since it's not a striking surface. If your in to close to use your pole arm drw your dagger, or steal his, ...
