In England they seem to appear in effigies starting around the second decade of the 15th century. There's a great bascinet in the Dodge's Palace in venice which has a high pointed skull similar to bascinets dated to the late 14th/early 15th century.

Based on Roman examples ( or at least how I understood them at the time) I attached scales to each other side to side using staples and attatched the resulting rows to the nbacking via lace. It proved to be a very efffective and easy to maintain arrangement.

BdB, There ae rule differences between the palte and mail tourney and the Combat of the Thirty. The former uses an armour as worn standard while the latter ussing an assumed armor standard of transitional plate. We'll be doing a run of stainless gauntlets very soon. We've been field testing a couple variations over the last few months and the designs are working great.

We'll be trying our hand at Kabuto's soon as well.

In my experience certain requirements e.g helm thickness and padding thickness are rarely checked but more or less left to the honor and good sense of the person wearing the armour.
