Thanks Mikael, Having the original to compare with the translation would be helpful as would texts in French. I don't read French but I know some folks who could translate for me. I'm primarily interested in the passage in which de Wavrin states "... the French began to hold down their heads, especi...

Jehan de Wavrin trtanslations ?
Is anyone aware of translations of Jehan de Wavrin's Chronicles 1399-1422 other than that by Sir W. hardy and E. Hardy 1887?
I'm particulary interested in his account of Agincourt.

One inch vertical and horizontals will allow a 1" dowel to pass through at the intersection. The common way to fix this is to have a bar across the at the meeting of the two openings but you can also do it by having a point come down from the horizontal bar to take up the space. Imagine the standard...

I usually make my Rough frm the Hammer breastplates from 16ga in either mild or stainless. For backplates I go with 18 in stainless but stick with 16 in mild. These weights seem to work well for most people as I haven't had any complaints. My own breastplate is 14ga stainless, largely because that t...

WMA school/discusion group.
For anyone interested, you may want to check out dieschlachtschule in yahoo groups. It's devoted primarily to exploring medieval combat from the perspective of the German traditions.

Hi Symon- I'm familiar with the claims about lifting the arms etc... but frankly I don't put much stock in it. If ( big if ) the grand aisette was ever used for a foundation garment various illustrations from the 15th cent and onward show that it was replaced with various doublet sleeve patterns. Pe...

to grand aisette or not ?
Let me preface by saying that in order to avoid confusion I'm going to use the descriptive phrase " foundation garment" to describe the article of clothing that was worn underneath plate armour to pad and support it ( attach it to the body). I find I prefer this to aketon, arming coat gambeson etc.....

I've had one since June, wore it all Pennsic as well as at weekly practices ever since. For refrence I ware it with a churburg 14 style breasplate, simple couters with rondels and demi lower cannons. I'm generally happy with it. I find no restriction in movement, had no troubles with the heat at War...

Hi Sedric, Glad to hear about the bascinet tops. I agree, I prefer softer rivets myself. I may offer a variety of rivets to suit tastes since I always keep a variety of types in the shop anyway. I've been using aluminum rivets for strapping my stainless stuff lately. I find the blend well with the s...

Thanks Adam, http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif I'd still offer the various pieces without the assembly kits as I do now. the kits would just be something available to save folks from having to shop around and/or buy larger quantities than they'd have a use for. So far the interest seems to ...

RFH assembly kits: interest ? ( x-post)
I've been thinking about offering assembly kits to go along with my Rough from the Hammer parts. They'd consist of buckles, rivets, possibly an appropriate amount of strapping. Would you folks find this usefull or do you usually have a supply of these materials on hand ? I think I could keep costs t...

Terminology confusion- I class the garmnent Cad was selling as jupon after the Charles the VI example. A similar garment is worn in the Von Holenklingen (sp?) effigy with the breastplate on the outside. Makes for quite a spiff look but possibly more German in flavor than English/French. He's also we...

I've seen at least one example of splinted legs into the last 1/4 of the 14th cent though it's from an Italian sculpture rather than the areas you mentioned. The splints are on the outside of the cuisse in this example. Generally the plan Flonzy outlined is pretty solid. I might go with a breastplat...
