why the WD40 ? I was going to recommend the red scotchbrite but dont you think the WD40 would soak into the lacing and make a mess later. The WD40 helps create a slurry of the Scotchbrite particles as you work which makes for a more even finish and faster work. As a plus some of the chemicals in th...

Don't touch it with a wire brush! it will leave bits of steel embedded in the stainless which will rust and stain the plates. Try laying flat and rubbing it with a maroon Scothcbrite pad lubricated with a little WD40.

For armor I've only used 1050 and 4130; I've found them generally similar as far as working properties with the 4130 a little less fussy to weld and a little harder to work than the 1050. The 4130 seems to have an edge in terms of toughness but not dramatically so. I plan a systematic comparison onc...

D Sebastian's working on getting the pics of the splint cuisses uploaded but if you'd like I can e-mail them to you directly so you don't have to wait. Just send me your e-mail address.

Galvyn, I went ahead and sent pics to you a little while ago.

7075 T6 has roughly twice the yield strength of 6061-T6 so it will be twice as dent resistant at the same thickness. That said 6061 T6 at .1" is holds up quite well so the added cost for the very modest weight difference between a 6061 T6 at .1" and a 7075 T6 at .09 "might not be just...

I'm making one for D Sebastian- based on some Byzantine art- as kettles go it has a very moderate brim almost a cervellier or shallow sallet in form- I'm not sure what the Byzantines might have called it. The historic example doesn't use a bevor but incorporating will allow an illusion of a shallow ...

According to Harold with the right lighting you could claim to inspire yourself-especially with your hair down :)

Jiri, I don't believe you need to fill the helmet with pitch but rather can place a layer of pitch on work surface such as a large ball stake which roughly conforms to the shape of the area you need to work. My knowledge of this is theoretical but I believe this is what Mac described to me in conver...
