German ones are- at least generally. The Italian styles are more like doubled breastplates with the placard attached via straps and buckles rather than riveted fast.

I switched from Oxy/Acetylene to Oxy/Propane a few years ago. I found I needed a larger rosebud to work at the ame rate but overall it is a huge cost saving.

.125" would be fine: not superlight but a very reasonable weight for most typical shield sizes, In that materila it will last pretty much forever.

7075 T651 plate is the strongest commonly available sheet aluminum and would make a fine shield but .25 is ridiculously thick for anything larger than a buckler. With that alloy you would want .07 to .09 thickness material if they have it.

How about by checking for degrees from an accredited institution? Certification by trade organizations.
