You see rectangular besagews on English effigies and brasses as early as 1416 and they seem to be at their height of popularity in the 1440s

I am not sure about their use on the continent.

You're achieving a really stunning shape on those- the best I've seen on molded leather greaves hands down.. What are you maikng your molds from and how do you attach the leather to them?

I saw a sample of the 6mm stuff today and was impressed with it. It is a very good proportion for voiders and similar bits of supplementary mail defences.

Thanks Hal, My standard gauges are 14ga for stainless and 12ga for mild but I can go thinner or thicker upon request. Thicker stainless costs more, but I'll go up to 1/8" in mild for the standard price. 14ga mild costs the same as the standard 12ga. Non-stock guages may take a little more time ...

Chemically strip it off. I've used commercial rust strippers for this purpose on gavanized mail- worked great. I'll look up whaqt wexact brand I used.

Broadly speaking primarily in the region over the scapula on either side of the spine. There is actually quite a bit of compound curve there.
