See, I'm not a wood guy. Shows what I know.

Ever use these tubular hammer wedges yourself?

No, but I've been meaning to and Maeyricks' review makes me want to even more- must be the time of year most of my hammers heads are loose right now too :)

To be clear , I am not suggesting that the fights be to submission just the victory conditions be limited to thrusts to the eye-slot to a bargrill, thrusts to the arm pit, thrusts to the back of the leg/buttocks/groin, (and maybe thrusts to the throat) i.e those areas only protected by mail in a ca...

Ransoms that allowed us to re-enter the field was introduced for the third COTT, in an attempt to make the fight last longer, and it did very much accomplish that. The unintended consequence was that the ransom portion became a more prominent feature of the COTT, and it civilized it a little. We ha...

If I recall correctly the first SCA 30 didn't allow you to get back in by paying a ransom- you could however re-enter if you had been taken for ransom and your captor was later killed. Also, the ransoms for the 1st were in the form of coins made available for purchase by the folks sponsoring the eve...

Master Galleron has made some tapered rattan spears with 2" heads which are very nice. We have used them for several St Michael's events and folks seem to like them. He has a tutorial on his blog:

If I am in fit state to take up arms I would, of course, stand with the forces loyal to Edward Plantagenet lawful King of England and France against those worthy but misguided souls who cast their lot with the Valois pretender.

The fellow in the yellow COP is circa 1350 or so. One of Adam Berry's personal kits is quite similar. Adam's wife Marla makes excellent gambesons for this period kit.

That's a somewhat fantasized drawing of a harness which could range from roughly 1390-1430 depending upon region and whether you want to be "state of the art" or somewhat old fashioned. The torso defence could be a any number of things including a late form of coat-of-plates opening down t...

You guys are gonna make me blush. The armouries you mentioned use my tops ( actually Windrose uses his own patterns which I dish for him) but they all do their own fitting and welding. When I do fit and welded tops they are MIGed on the inside and then TIG welded on the outside and ground to a 120gr...

I'm surprised that greaves don't require anything else to hold them in place. I just assumed they needed to be attached to something else somehow otherwise they'd slide around... but apparently I'm wrong! One caveat- This is true of historical weight greaves; modern reproductions ar sometimes excess...

Thanks Agnarr are they the same pattern as the regular cops, with the fan removed? Also, I was wondering why the fan less knee is more expensive than the fanned version? The elbow is pretty since the body of the cop and not the fan covers the required 3 points of the elbow so the fanless elbow is no...

Hi Garetth,

The stock elbows, spaulders and knees are 16ga whether mild or stainless. I can do thicker or thinner upon request. The e-mail you sent to is fine for ordering. I respond to e-mails within 2 working days as a rule.

Cheers

There's documentary evidence for voiders in the latter part of the 14th century I'd have to dig it up for the actual sites But IIRC the context was an ordinance from the Low Countries. Dantini mentions importing mail sleeves to Avignon circa 1360 I think.

The majority of inventory descriptions I've seen mention velvet with the occasional instance of "cloth of gold" which I believe in this context would be a brocade incorporating gold thread. The St Michael painting in the met shows brocade. I can't recall what the outer layer on the Chalcis...

The #5 would be a little light for the 14ga stainless but it would be fine for the lighter guages. A #7 or #8 would be better choice. If you njeed to drill I would recommend cobalt ot HSS bits.
