Regarding the multiple back plate construction of Italian cuirasses such as this one, I think it's is interesting to note that the back defenses on fabric covered armours from the late 14th and first decade or so of the 15th century often have the plates arranged in a similar design of overlaping &q...

Imagine that all your welding equipment was absconded with one day for whatever reason. How many of you think you could get by without? How many would hang up your hammers? Welding is a great timesaver if used to to supplement other techniques. I could make everything I make now without welding but...

Hi Russ, You want the thicker part of the BP toward the center and thinner at the edges? Does it need hemmed edges? Let me know I can easily knock one out for you, I've got to do two for Madd Matt tomorrow anyway. I might be able to help with the lamaellar depending upon you time frame and budget. P...

As a general rule of thumb, I expect a historic breastplate to allow you to put your arms forward and grab your right elbow with your left hand and vis versa. As a contrast I run into folks who want to be able to make their elbows touch in front of their chest which I doin't think a historic BP will...

Generally, I think that customers interested in accurate reproductions will aqccept any range of motion losses that come with accurately proportioned armour. You can contrast this with SCA guys who, given a different emphasis and goals typically often want breastplates that are proportioned to allow...

Hi Jeff, I *think* the glue idea may be an out growth of Chris Dobesons' work on reconstructing a 14th century vambrace form the British Museum(INv 156, 7-1.1665) Based on evidence form surviving hardened leather armour components (a crupper and club tourney helm IIRC) Chris coated the vambrace with...

Your mention of the predating the ideals up held within the SCA is what made me think along those lines. I understand your confusion. In refering to personnas predating Knightly and Chivalric culture I mean personas from befor the development of those ideas in European Culture ie Tims Scythian perso...
