Sheets of the hardened alloys ( 606-, 2024 etc...) will be marked as such by the mill in the form of printed lettering running repetedly accross the sheet listing alloy, hardness, thickness, and heat number. If it is unmarked it is most lilely an unhardend alloy and not suitable for armour.

Ideallty both but if I had to choose I'd pick carefull drawing ( as opposed to rough sketching). I find drawing a thing requires you to really look at it in a way that photography doesn't.

A few backplates from Rhodes, the small plates have been used to patch- restore other elements found there.

Regarding the multiple back plate construction of Italian cuirasses such as this one, I think it's is interesting to note that the back defenses on fabric covered armours from the late 14th and first decade or so of the 15th century often have the plates arranged in a similar design of overlaping &q...

I'll get then to you ASAP. turns out the one in Kings Chapel is 1519 and not 15th century. If you'r looking for dogs in a non heraldic setting just to see how they're drawn/sculpted there are a number in the Visconti Hours and of course Gaston Phoebus

Hi Doug, I've found some 15th century examples in sculpture which I can scan and send to you in a couple days. It'd faster but my home scanner wont talk to my computer. One, from Kings college Chapel is a heraldic supporter and is probably closest to what your looking for ( more of a hound though)

As a general rule of thumb, I expect a historic breastplate to allow you to put your arms forward and grab your right elbow with your left hand and vis versa. As a contrast I run into folks who want to be able to make their elbows touch in front of their chest which I doin't think a historic BP will...

Generally, I think that customers interested in accurate reproductions will aqccept any range of motion losses that come with accurately proportioned armour. You can contrast this with SCA guys who, given a different emphasis and goals typically often want breastplates that are proportioned to allow...

Ah, but this event predates *all* other kingdoms. The first event in the East wouldn't be for nearly a year (and even then, apparently it was rained out).

This is true but the history of the SCA is more than the history of the West.

Good Sir you speak of honour and chivalry and of history yet you seem to forget that the period odeals of honour and chivalry are far different from the georgian/victorian ideals that we have today.

I don't think I forget this at all, why do you say I do?
