Hi Aaron,, Youve basically got it right though you'll want to coat the inside of the mold with a release so that he positive cast doesn't stick to the bandages. Ask Murdock about this. I had him make lower leg molds for his greaves. I don't know how the plaster will survive in an oven. One more thin...

Really though whether Richard did or didn't is not really Germain if what we seek to foster is the ideal of Chivalry. Not much of a search will provide examples of medieval knights acting in all sorts of ways which are counter to the principles of chivalry but that doesn't justify emulating these de...

We (in the SCA) are not all 14th century European. Not only were there Kings and Queens of (pre-1600) history that were noted for their ability with the bow, in addition there are (pre-1600) historical periods and cultures where nobles (are presumed to have) fought in combat with bows. We are instr...

These are always interesting conversations. In my experience effectiveness in a real fight has less to do with technique than with being prepared emotionaly and psychologically for violence both recieving and delivering. I think that SCA fighting can be a usefull tool for training in this direction ...

To muddy the water further what type of foot combat? tournement, war, juducal duel? different considerations lead to different equipment. Lots of the targets described in historic manuals can't bee seen from behind a historic visor, suggesting removed or raised visors in these contexts. PS Angus, yo...

Thanks for the info on the manufacturer. I'll ahve to dig up ordre requirements. For most of Grey's we think what was most common for our portrayals and what is available for us to achieve that look that looks correct. We do have a play you station rule, it seems funny to spend $8k to $15,000 (or mo...

For $200 a yard you can have anything you want made by an Italian company, the one Medieval Designs uses. There is a big difference in quality between the gown they made for Karl and one made from faked materials. Do you have a link to this company? Have you verified their fabric content? I've seen...

Silk Damask is in fact available and at a price that will not cripple a person who spends the money to have proper armor. I shoudl add. I've blackened quite a bit of mail by cleanign it well coating it wuiht olive oil and baking it in my home oven. the resultant coating is quite durable and rustresistant. I didn't check the actuall temps achived in the oven- simply baking until the oil stopped smoking. It's unlikely th...

It will definitely effect the springyness as you'll essentially be reheatreating them. How it will effectt hem is impossible to say wihtout knowing the alloy. It could leave them either rmore brittle or softer or pretty much the same. Wihtout knowldege of the alloy the only way to find out is throug...

What do you want to sepend? That will narrow the range of suggestions a ood bit ( unless your budget is unlimited ) I think the best English language survey covering the medievalrenaissance period is "Arms and Armour" of the Medieval Knight" by Edge and Paddock. It's out of print but copies can be f...
