Re: SCA hitting ones self
<snip> As for killing blows caused by weapons driven into your opponent you have to be careful. If they block correctly they would/should catch your weapon with the flat side of the sword (not the blade). So if the weapon hits them it should be a flat hit... think about it. This is roughly what I u...

I have this crazy idea to dance in my armour with my helmet, weapon and sheild. With the blinds drawn of course. My neighbors already think I'm nuts. umm .. screw the shades .. the really good ones are already fightin' to their own dance mix as you step onto the field .. yer own personal soundtrax ...

Imagine all the football and 300 training vids you've seen of them doing runs/sprints/sequencing thru tire drills. It's what we did in H.S. for track/pole-vault, in the military for riot drills in boot camp and later in my pro-rehab for ACL rebuild therapy. Buy an 'escape' ladder and toss down onto ...

I have always heard horror stories about the rain. It's why I have never gone. Well it's about time for me to wander back down again ... if it would get you and Sir Mord to wander down, I'd make sure the PFC (Pentamere Free Company) pavilion is up and running at least on the edge of the battlefield...

Salon Pas (japanese sticky paper with pepperspray soaked into it). Used it for many years along with 'light fighter candy' (800mg Ibuprofen) in heavy doses after riot/take down/submission training. I know this might not be the best question, but you have the eye, the soul and the hand for knowing what needs to be made. Any posibility at taking on some apprentices to learn and train to carry on the tradition? The market seems to be opening more and more along with needing someone with a good re...

My kit would have to drop 62 years. Advice? -Aaron You could do the same thing Sir Crispin did a few years back and use another's harness who was unable to join in the 30. In return for use of parts of my harness, I was well compensated by a portion of his ransom. (The 'borrowing/renting' of my har...

Now with this type shown above am I right that you still have to use a basket hilt? Depends on where you are. Here in the Midrealm they are legal for full use but decent padding is recommended (i.e. at least 'mouse pad' rubberized foam over the knuckles and finger tips. I use a similar set from Cla...

The real problem is that GOOD Klappvisors are hard to find. When done right, they offer better vision than a great helm. Minor loss, but as far as breath and vision I seem to be doing well at the Cot30 and that gets to be pretty 'melee-like' at times ... http://home.armourarchive.org/members/iain/T...

RoaK, All, RoaK you are seriously under-estimating the mercenary numbers. The numbers for mercenaries at Pennsic is usually around 3 to 4 hundred. - Straum Erm.. I'd be willing to bet Roak and Nissan, etc, have a better idea of Merc numbers than most. Just sayin.. It pays to know what your competit...

The Thirty is wierd. If you don't get a solid group of three to five guys who stick together no matter what, you are screwed . My desire to pull away certain terrifying individuals from the main group worked. I was certain I would not be killed because of my name and, well, because I am rich. I gav...

just my opinion, but it's still better mucho better than the stick tag I played the rest of the week. Don't get me wrong, I loved the rest of the week and the variety of battles, but hands down the 30 is the end all, be all of Pennsic for me now. It's sooooo addictive. The feel both leading up to a...

I plan to try and get at least a sunshade set up for us near the 'common field' for historic tourneys most likely by Thursay (not sure if I'll be back onsite late Weds or early Thursday in time to play). With the standards the Captains are holding people to, I'd not be suprised to see a good # of haubergeon, shirts and at least voiders on the field. I will most likely be tarred, feathered and run out of town for this ... But given the general attendence of Pennsic 10-11,000 ... and the general # of folks out on the battlefield 2-3,000 ... I suspect the issue is really only a major one to us. To the others it's similar to demos ... we're just a ...
