Kon,
I'm good with that.
Dan,
How many types of hardened leather have you made Dan? I know people tend to promote heat more now than in the past after wet forming. What is your take on these processes?

Ernst, Not too sharp just tend to read the latin when it is there to see what is going on. I saw this account in English and really like the level of detail the scribe put into it. My next pair of plates will be a red velvet with double canvas layer under it. I want to use silver rivets know but I f...

Re: Hardened leather in a COP? 14th Century Lowland Scot
Ernst, Seems to be what I see as well. I see very little evidence for leather besides a few hints here and there and Thordmann. There is a Italian pair of plates that still has some of its textile foundation. Is the Latin the entire section? Looks like some is missing. the first number of plates in ...

Kon, Why do you think this? The only documents I know of show armour reqs that are near the same in the 14th. We have the 1318 in the Scot Parl. Rolls that is near identical to one from Ed II and Ed III run. There are as far as I know 0 MS of this period, precious little art in general or inventorie...

I may have some pictures of one I made some time ago in a somewhat step by step manner. Shoot me an email and I will send it over. My thoughts on where most COPs go wrong- Make it fit you. People often think they are one size fits all. This is not likely so, especially with some of the later models....

Re: 14th Century Scottish Warrior
Kel, I am actually not saying that. My point is largely the lack in one inventory cannot be used to show how common something is or to devalue the item in another inventory. As well the danger of misuse of inventories for things they are not meant to do. I think that if we make assumptions we should...

I think one of the ones that I posted is sort of like that. I do not recall any early bascinets with center mounts like that.

Kel, I disagree. I see 0 difference between the early 14th in respect to continental and English inventories with plate or really armour in general. In fact some of the earliest references to plate seem to be in England in both art and text. I think Jean Le Bel has seriously misguided many especiall...

Kel, That is pretty straight forward. The same reason I think Villani is a terrible source for Crecy. It does not have much evidence to back it up from other contemporaries. I'd for sure check out the link as the 14th century is a long century and any short summary is going to be hard to give you a good idea on what you should be doing. Re: Research for development of Arms and Armor.
I'd not be 100% so sure of that Dan. I have held and worn some very heavy period plate. If we had a way to compare period mail that covers a specific area on the body to plate we could see for sure if that is the case but I am still not entirely onboard with the added weight being the only trade off...

'It's possible that it may have been considered inferior to mail on the battlefield. Threats change a...

Set works. I tend to go by meanings over direct translations to avoid loss of meaning from the original. Set works in this case I think.

You can find 14th century torso armour of this nature but I think Bob is right. His key points on it all seem to tie to later but not to worry there are literally tons of evidence for 14th century armour. I'd ditch the work corazzina myself in talking about these. I think they'd just be called pairs...

I'm with many of you here. I'd try it for a while. I think a few months would be a good learning experience. I'd not be sure I'd want to do it a year or more though. They did something like this in the 70s with an Iron Age village for the BBC. Seemed to have worked.
