Josh, I agree with Murdock, by that time it would not be a COP. The COP was in use in the 1380's likely but someone on the upper levels of war would be in a breastplate. One example that I use alot (mostly because it is 5 pages of small script armour and weapons listings) is in 1358. Prince Edward i...

Johan, I agree that using multiple layers of linen is a possible way to do it. I prefer to use one heavier layer instead though. If you can hand scales of plates for a COP it will hand quite a beating. Kersme, It seems like the multiple linen layers if for rigidity and strength. The padding is for a...

I have used the sandewiching method before and think it works very well. I think the problems are people tend to use to little padding and when you use the type of cotton batting needed it makes sewing it very hard as it is a good few inches pre sewing. Once sew my gambeson is less than an inch thic...

Egfroth, Well the other version I looked at does not seem to mention it. I will see if I cannot get the other on loan. The nice thing about the one I usedbefore was it had all the MSs in columns next to each other and notes on questionable word choices in the old english at the bottom. The new Unive...

Reidhur, On the vast majority of effigies and artwork splints for the rerebraces (upper arm) and the cuisses (thighs) are inside. The vambraces and greave varies so you could do either inside or outside but seems the greaves more often inside, vambraces often are outside. Luttrel Psalter.... You kno...

I think the shoulders looks like three or four overlapping plates of rectangular shape with a neck guard. THe closest one to the neck with a plate rivetted to the edge. To get them to stick up like that you might need to tie or rivet them fairly tightly as gravity will normally pull them down. The b...

There were ties though between AS England and Ireland preconquest. IN the AS Chronicle Harold Godwin's sons flee there and return with Irish troops to attack after Hastings but nothing materializes really. I know the AS's fought the groups in scotland and wales but nothing comes to mind in ireland. ...
