Now take this with a bit of salt as I cannot read the site at all but the white gambeson, if it was being shot at looks plenty thick for a aketon and for such testing. I could not think a padded garment would be much use much more padded without limited mobility. The black one looks like the CAS one...

there is a picture of an early 14th century English one in a pic I have. It is most assuredly a late to early 14th bevor. In the Taymouth hours there are a few knights (three) wearing what looks to be plate neck guards as well, that could be early gorgets. You could go english! Some of Nicolle's con...

did you ever get a pattern? If you like I can tell you how I have mede them in the past. I make two part tops that are just 1/2 the circumference of my head plus 1/2 inch overlap on each side for rivets. Make a top cap that fits them once formed. I then make a 'D' shaped piece for the face and make ...

Goon, you will need a heavy canvas. NowI highly would avoid the foam at all costs. You will cook and it will be quite uncomfortable. I would go with cotton batting or even old rags or fabic layered in before the foam. I could not think of a problem with plastic plates inside but have never done so b...

Somethings I have found. one is that practice is the queen. You will spend much time doing it. two patience. I rush still and ruin rolls in a heartbeat (then I beat the ...) If you go slow along the whole length then start over it works best. three use a pen. I have a pen that I made a variable dist...

Jurgen and Maelgwyn, The problem is that the carbon spring armours are going the far opposite way, 26-22 gauge is way WAY thinner than the historic armour I have been examining for the last while now as well as most of the other examinations that have been done. That is the issue if one is striving ...

Sean, The information is listed in a Article by A. Williams and David Edge in the Journal of Neurologists 47 but the copy I had must have been returned to the library at work. I will look tomorrow if I remember and have a second to look for it. I may just pm you once found as I can put the pictures ...

Sean, You may have missed it alittle. Heat treating is very, VERY hit and miss until the very late 14th-15th for n. italy and the late 15th in germany and often reserved to marked armour and not the most common product made even when it can be done with some continuance. By the time it really develo...

I guess I look a the SCA use of higher carbon steels as almost boffer weapons and plastic kind of. The only difference is heat treated armour in some amounts existed and looks good... In historic armour they rarely drop the weight if the piece is heat treated, so you have a treated piece of armour t...

Endre, we made some hand made flattened riveted mail once. It was a very small weave and quite heavy. As I could only draw a 75 pound draw bow at the time (likely worse now as I have not practiced regularly in years) but the mail over a 1.2cm thick gamberson of linen outside cotton inside with cotto...
