Very nice arms. and 1 and a half pounds seems fairly reasonable as far as weight goes.
I think it was great what you and Stormkeep did. It is nice to see such good deeds.
How did the armour work out for Robyn?

Thomas, I thought I told you.... I am hopefully going to be notified as soon as it is done (hopefully before) so I will let you know. It should be published by the RA. I am hoping to get back in there soon but my wife is 7 months along, have to move, dissertation is near due and I am speaking at a c...

Chef, I just had a quick question about why you said the coventry helmet is from brughes? I have an article by David Edge and Alan Williams attributing it to England from the late 90's and have not seen anything else. Any info appreaciated as usual. Johan, As a visual person here are some links of a...

once you get over 20 layers the linen (depending on its weight) will make it semi-rigid. The ones I have seen made over 20-25 layers can stand up on their own. Basically like Tim said,go with thinner layers over places that need to move. Are you using this as a stand alone defense? They still had pa...

Here is from Contamine's @War in the Middle Ages' from a req list off the Templars in the mid 13th; Mail shirt, Chausses, helmet, espaliers(spaulders), Sollorets, Surcoat, Shield, lance (spear), sword, turkish club (mace) and dagger. Basically mid to late 13th you start getting plate things, gauntle...

I have never spoke to a single curator of arms and armour at many of the better known armouries (I still have some to find still) that thinks backplates were not used before 1400. This seems to be a fairly common statement of certain groups recently but I have never found it made much sense personal...

Looks great. I assuem they do but wanted to ask anyway. How do they hold up in SCA combat. You should not be getting hit that hard direct to the face but was curious. Once again I have to say very nice work, I thought about doing a simple face in steel but started and never finished I got so frustra...

Looks like you have been well helped. I can attest to the facitily of making these. I have a large number of barrel, early great -helm illustrations from the 13th, (making a time line from late 12th to 14th, maybe). The mid 13th ones can be like these or the Mac bible ones that are somewhat differen...

I do not like close enough to really help (York England) but I have made armour for sometime for the SCA mostly and can help out as much as needed. What Konstantine said about not using straight strips of metal for the neck-band is important. It fits much better with a slight curve at least in the f...

Ugo, I found titanium at a shop I worked at one time. I hammered it like nothing else and got little movement. I thought it looked like some other type of metal so I kept hammering. In the end I just gave up until my boss asked if someone had moved the bit I had. I told him where it was and that I h...

Josh, I wish you lived closer I have a COP that I made that made me favor my second half of the 14th over my 2nd quarter of the 15th harness back at home (just barely thought). I was in the process of making a second more refined on when I left. I was looking to cover it all in a red or blue velvet....

it really is not that hard to form after. In fact recently I have come to feel that formed edges may be easier than 2 dimensional curves to roll. It reall is not that hard though if you have a nice solid thing to work with. A cut rail road rail with one of the curved sides faceing up works very well...

Cat, Something also to look at is your pain tolerance and natural arm padding. I as a somewhat thin gent and a damaged arm would be terrible for my work like having a bit of padding (I think 2 layers of cotton batting (8oz., don't think it is too thick once sewn) under cotton and linen layers. It al...
