sorry do not have the picture you are looking for. Will look in some armour books at the museum tomorrow when I get back though.

The problem is he has decided he is right and we are all wrong. I doubt seriously that most of his 'research' would stand up to any real scrutiny and that is the game. I find it amusing his test is, by one and see.... 3,000 dollars could be better spent in my book. ......Draft horse at 800 pounds......

Could the mail shirt not go from being the best defence to a status symbol? I mean if I was well off I would buy the best armour there and so would other well off men so in a way it would be a relation of both it being a status symbol as well as a good defense. I am not deeply versed in Norse histor...

The Gascons actually figth the French at teh end of the 100 Years War with little help from England to avoid the FRench take over. That said they did lose but I would hardly call them French. The Normans also do not start showing heavy FRENCH nationalism until the end of the HYW when they start sayi...

I got to see some of the ones that are getting ready to go out on display but are not quite there. They have alot out already though. Those curators are some top notch people. Every time I go I am ready to go back before I leave. I find myself spending more time in the library now as well which if y...

I just have a inch thich bar drilled with different diameters and then I have little bits I stick from the back in that determine the depth. One done if stuck remove back plug stick in small rod and use a rubber mallet to pop it out. Heat helps if you already have it going. Leave a few near the forg...

Thats a tricky period for armour in general. Now if you broaden it to the second half of the 14th you can go to the British Museum and the Wallace collection in London. Also the Victoria and Albert have some effigys that are worth a look. Thomas is right the Royal Armouries has alot of it here in En...

go to m type in armour. m There are hundreds of pictures with sallet, salades any type possible. It likely was one of the most common helmets in the 15th century. I would think it hard to actually miss as most pictures from the second half of the 15th have sallets in them. Perhaps it is the specific...

Where do I find this in England? Any of my AA English friends know? I have been looking on line but have come up with very little. I can go by bus but no car so transport is an issue. I am looking for a place that is local but the engineers I have spoken to as well as the metal fab and welder guys s...

Wow I am suprised that so many have had such experiences at museums. While I do work part time at one (slightly biased) I would be suprised if the fulltime curator blew someone off without any info. I have just written to a museum and hope they respond promptly but it is a rather sad day when a muse...

Calipers
Well let me sum up what I am looking for. I need calipers that can give very specific measurements to the hundreth in inches and at least the tenth in mm. The kicker is they have to be able to get at least ten inches in or more from the edge and not leave scratches. I have tried with the metal calip...
