RA. THey have the round little room full of castle/siege weapon models and info and right outside to the side doors on either side are glass displays. ONe side outside is a number of sallets the other is breastplates. Behind the breastplates I think is the gauntlet.

I am with Cet, they were a short lived experiment it seems and had longer half life in German places. I do not think the Ch 13 would have them personally.

The problem is he has decided he is right and we are all wrong. I doubt seriously that most of his 'research' would stand up to any real scrutiny and that is the game. I find it amusing his test is, by one and see.... 3,000 dollars could be better spent in my book. ......Draft horse at 800 pounds......

There are only two references I know in late medeival history. One is the leather rerebrace in the British Museum, Second is a treatise on the tourney for king Rene. Sorry not much else I know of. there may be some leather used in jacks as well but no full suits I know of,

Could the mail shirt not go from being the best defence to a status symbol? I mean if I was well off I would buy the best armour there and so would other well off men so in a way it would be a relation of both it being a status symbol as well as a good defense. I am not deeply versed in Norse histor...

This is not 100% accurate. There are many primary sources that indicate a combination of aketon and mail or plate armour in the 14th. (London Letter Book, Memoranda Rolls, etc.) It could indeed be used as a primary armour but likely as padding as well.

The Gascons actually figth the French at teh end of the 100 Years War with little help from England to avoid the FRench take over. That said they did lose but I would hardly call them French. CLinker,

True but don't forget the source could be slanted as well. Who wrote it, when to who etc., etc. There definatly are medieval sources who have stories of men who think there are textile armours that are sword proof, one ends very bad for the man, it is a coroner's report....

Thats a tricky period for armour in general. Now if you broaden it to the second half of the 14th you can go to the British Museum and the Wallace collection in London. Also the Victoria and Albert have some effigys that are worth a look. Thomas is right the Royal Armouries has alot of it here in En...

Splints are not always on the outside. It depends on what part. Most cuisses are inside, greaves and vambraces vary between the two but from what I have seen it is more often inside but you can do what you like with reasonable accuracy.
