This is very interesting post. I love CoP's, so little is really solid it is very interesting as their is alot of room to move and speculate. As far as I know it sufferes from the same issue as most torso armour of this ear, the surcoat. I have found lots of records of them between 1320-1370 in the ...

I agree with Wulfe,

If you make it all one piece it becomes a hindrance. I have some pictures of one I made in one piece somewhere.... I will look but I would do it seperate of spaulders.

I think something that comes up here is the fact that after him the line of Douglas's are the 'Black' Douglas's. I believe he was the one who served RObert Bruce and was taking his heart to Jerusalem when he was killed. The 'Black' Douglas in 1455 at Arkenholm the line gets pretty much destroyed by ...

Russ, I would like to read this article. I cannot think of any other way to explain the translation in Fudge beside being moved forward to force the enemy either back away from them or inside the circle, fairly offensive to me it seems. OF course I had no idea much was done on hussites besides the a...

btmcrae, It definatly could be a factor as can deposits that are found in poor condition that have been corroded. In the end we can basically only measure what we have to go with but it is a possibility. I have heard some people's SCA armour has dropped an entire gauge of thickness over long years o...

Wulfe, I hate to disagree but I work with late medieval armour and early modern armour and as I said before do not think your gauges are quite right. Russ, I did find somethings on Mattias but very little. From Fudge's book it seems the sources state the wagons even played a semi-mobile role opening passages then closing people in and also moving forward to engulf men. I am interested in the light cavalry they used as well. Seems pretty interesti...

Wulfe, Where did you find your thicknesses? Not as it is a huge issue but from what I have handled the numbers sound too thin. I would guess closer to 19/18 and heavier depending what part and where than 22. If you got it from Valentines online chart be careful I think it is very small sample size i...

Josh,

I assume by its look that it is a solid breastplate like on the one at the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Munich or the two they have at the churburg. By 1360 I do not see why the prince of England would not have a complete solid one piece breastplate.

Hew, THe Springalds and Mangonels are listed in the Calendar of the City of London's Letter books and the Calendar of Memoranda and Plea Rolls. I had assumed it still served as padding, perhaps it was a more thickly padded garment and therefore went over. In England at least in the reign of Henry VI...
