Re: Fingers on mid 14th Gauntlets
Tom, I do look at the holes for sure. I am not sure they are for the rider plates though. Many are too far removed from where they would have to be, but perhaps more important many only have one hole. To me that means palm strap. I have been able to look at several in very good detail, the RA ones I...

I do not know about clothing much but have you seen David Nicolle's Medieval Warfare Source Book or arms and armour of the crusading era? One volume focuses very much on the region you are looking at your period and has some lovely pictures. Looks like knee or longer length tunics that can be rather...

Re: length of hauberk sleeves 14th century harness?
Ernst, I'd have to look it over again but there for sure is more specialized gear for the tournament by the 1300s so for sure could be. He does indeed offer that theory but there is so little evidence I am not convinced. I talked to him about it and I still feel there is more info needed to make suc...

Re: length of hauberk sleeves 14th century harness?
Ian, I have heard that as well but I am not so sure. Art almost always shows kings and such wearing fairly complete plate with the hauberk or haubergeon still. As well all the way into the mid 15th people like Monstrelet indicate this similar trend. Honestly I am resting on preference at this point ...

Re: length of hauberk sleeves 14th century harness?
Henrik, Most people did think that but Thom Richardson's PhD Thesis more or less shows both in use. Thom takes that to mean that it supplanted the use of the hauberk more or less but I am thinking it was more likely to have multiple options for an individual. I am still not sure that the bits of mai...

Re: most suitable coat of plate for a german soldier 1350-75
Ernst, I'd be surprised if this was knightly in 1360. I suspect it was recycled as the Wisby side would not have had many or any nobles from what I have seen. Aside from the fact it looks almost nothing like the artwork it also looks more like pairs of plates in older art. Henrik, Look for ones like...

Gus, If you find the Battle of Sinalunga wall painting at the public plaza of Siena there are a few of the infantrymen in the one top right side of that are wearing aketons, one or two are wearing aketongs, pairs of plates and bits of plate with their bascinets. http://www.greatestbattles.iblogger.o...

I guess if you use modern armour under it that could be true for sure but from the question he is asking, not using modern armour, I'd think that a poor idea for him. Historically indeed it is indeed just wrong.

Taymouth Hours has them. They show up fairly often early on. I actually suspect those from later were perhaps a bit older to the more new rounded and pointed visors.

Thanks Galfrid, today has been very busy. Tibbie, There are actually a large number of them. They are common for commissions of array from Ed II onwards to only require a aketon and pair of plates or aketon and haubergeon for the better armed footmen. Here is one example. Edward II, 1324 Aug. 6. vol...

Yep. The calendar of patent rolls has tons of them for commoners. aketon and pair of plates or just aketon is likely the two most common armour reqs in their commission of arrays. Usually coupled with a bascinet.
