Yep. One of the walls was 9 feet out and the other 7.5. I suspect I need to get used to marking 8 feet out from the center post to ensure it is set up perfect.

Re: Planning 16th century arms

Wade,

What do you think is the most likely set up? I have tried several different systems and unless new evidence is found all seem as open in interpretation but I'd love to hear someone else's point of view on this that has tried to make them.

Re: How should my lower canons fit? How do I get them to?

Aussie, "Mac has it. My doublet is thin. I understand mid-late 15thC doublets to have also been thin. So the answer to my bruising woes is in correct armour." I think most assume this but evidence for mid 15th is much more complex to be sure one more of anything. Still mentioning aketons and gambeso...

Re: How should my lower canons fit? How do I get them to?

Mac, That makes sense and no photos needed I know what you are speaking of. To be honest I am more and more thinking that aketons made with plate and even before with mail were always made with differential padding as it enhances the use greatly. Guess I need to wait for us to find a early period ak...

Re: How should my lower canons fit? How do I get them to?

Aussie, I guess you'd have to prove that is the way our ancestors did it first. I think the key point here that the vambraces need to be made with length, shape but also movement in mind. I think Wade's point on gauntlets and rotation built into the lower vambrace itself more or less are what I am s...

Re: Hundred Years War era question

I understand what you are saying by the time these are being made armed men are by and large the more common troops with archers on ships so there is not real easy way to know if the gents on the ships are armed men or men-at-arms. As well hobelars are often required to have a hauberk on so a mail s...

Why on earth do you think camails or coifs are a noble thing? Some of the guys in the Holkham bible have s coifs or camails on their helmets and they for sure are not noble. As Mordeth said they do have some interesting weapons. http://manuscriptminiatures.com/4362/9945/ Kon, Any infantry bascinet is pretty straight forward. They use bascinet at skull cap (usually palet or what not is used) but there are clearly differences and both are clearly being used by the 1320s. ...

Re: Hundred Years War era question

Not a common system from what I have seen in art and text. I suspect archers likely carried single handed weapons. We do have the maul that shows up in the Agincourt era but they seem to largely have been for hammering stakes into the dirt. I'll look through my notes because I did find a few example...

Re: A few quick questions on COP construction.

I'm with Kon if you want to go fabric. You can do several layers of canvas and velvet if you like a really nice face but something to know is that over time leather or fabric will get scuffs and some day maybe need replacement. That said I did rebated and used the same canvas pair of plates for year...

That is very odd Myron- The one I got is actually closer to 12 gauge in most places. My guess is they weld a great deal and grind the crud out of it. I think all the GDFB helmets likely do need some help to look more accurate.

So options for men at arms at Agincourt era for throat and head as I am seeing it.

Bascinet with aventail- still pretty common
Sub group, aventail with iron/steel plates at the front.-
gorget collar and bascinet-
gorget collar and kettle helmet
Great bascinet-

Sound right?
