Why do you say that? We have textual evidence for archers shooting from the back ranks?

You do not think that this "You know so little about what you are talking about that it is impressive." Is a good way to teach? No doubt your criticism are right for the video I posted but once again Steve this is my point and you just walked right past. I already said that was the case. I already said the video was not perfect and listed a number of flaws... but that is what I am trying to get across. My point is there is 0...

Yes because as we all know MA has a monopoly on good information.... and tack. He may be wrong but there are better ways to go about it.

Yes that was my meaning. Sure I did, the cookie sheet is about the same as all these videos for the most part. I put one up that showed deep metal penetration and you said no. It is flawed all over. Re: Pauldrons. Cavalry, Infantry ... everybody?
Just a quick look at late 15th century art from Germany, France and England shows very little evidence to me of a strict rule one way or the other. I think one would have to look over far more than the ones I did. Lots of images with guys on horseback with the smaller spaulders. I think James has a ...

Steve, It is a joke that backyard testing is hardly largely humorous and ridiculous and to me hardly reliable for evidence. I would not lose my hope in humanity over this debate either way I suspect. Re: Pleated Shirts from Lengberg
Very interesting. What is the earliest we see pleats like this?
They also look pretty different to modern pleats in many ways. It is interesting how short they appear to be on most of the remaining garments. More gathers.
Neat info though for sure.

That makes sense. It is interesting to look at originals. Some time in the future I would not mind getting some originals. That is true. I think they had for their time an incredible amount of medical treatments in the medieval period. Technically historically it likely was called a number of things but it is largely modernly called Corrazina.
Caius is very correct on the faulds. I'd make sure to look into this before making them. Most think the vertical plates are not correct for the period.

Derian, I am very interesting in this casting of your own sheet. I have not worked with pewter that was liquid since the early part of the last decade. Re: crossbow bolts and longbow arrows against armor
Dan, "If a particular piece of armour didn't work then it was made thicker. Why would anyone bother wearing a vambrace that was 1.2mm thick if it didn't work? It is just as easy to make it 1.5mm thick." Not sure this logic stands. Same can be said about weapons. To me it is about relative protection...

Re: crossbow bolts and longbow arrows against armor
Kel, I can see it depending on thickness of the material and weight but penetration with sharp weapons is a different thing from BFT and rebated thrusts. I think this would change thrusts remarkably if they had sharp points. A sword point is going to have far better time piercing than 3mm plus thick...

Re: crossbow bolts and longbow arrows against armor
Agreed but first you are still saying padding. Some think only clothing was worn under plate. The stopping power of a two layered arming garment is pretty low. Unless the garment is significant I doubt highly it'd do much besides soak up some of the blood. So basically what I am saying is there is a...
