I have a feeling that if I put that much work into a shield boss, it would break my heart to cover it it up (and I'd have to to use it) so I'll probably buy one.

I have (very!) limited experience making my own armor/equipment. I'm looking for detailed directions on making a center grip round shield with center boss suitable for use in SCA combat and sized properly for my size (5'6", female)/period (10th century Dublin Norse).
Anyone know a good link?
