I'd love to see Dave do these in Aluminum. He already makes globose breast and back plates in AL, so I don't imagine it would be that much of a stretch.

Blued Stonekeep spring steel cops for sale (knees and elbows

I have a set of spring steel knee and elbow cops that I bought from Mike, back when he had the archive sale. I decided to take my kit in a different direction, so they are up for sale. These are normally $49 a set. I want what I paid for them, which was $30 a set. I figure shipping will be $10 or so...

It's dead easy to do yourself. Put whatever finish level you prefer on the piece. Wire brush it, polish it, whatever. Clean it compleatly. Do not get fingerprints on it when you put it in the oven. Set oven to 550 degrees. It will usually take 15 or 20 minutes after the oven has come up to temp. The...

If you can use 14 gauge instead of 16, You can get some for the cost of shipping, more or less, from a member here. 8" x 24". I talked to Kevin and he can cut it down to 12" pieces and it will fit in a flat rate shipping box.

Jim,
You can get the forge PLENTY hot with charcoal, and the electric blower.
I melted a file that I was trying to anneal for a knife blade. I was using charcoal briquettes and I had the blower up to high. I only turned my back on it for a few seconds...oops!

No, the standard blueing methods for mild do not work on stainless. However, there are chemical blackening solutions made specifically for stainless.

We are going to try our best to be there! i don't have any specific projects in mind, but we can always play with the forge, you will need coal or lots of charcoal. i've also done some pewter casting, but it's been a while.

Hjalmr, Is there any chance you might be persuaded into selling just the welded, stainless domes? I'd love to make one of these helms. Heck, there are a lot of helms i'd like to make, if I could get helm domes cheaply. You must have an awesome source for scrap 14 gauge stainless, to be selling this ...

Or you can use these, all you need to do is cut off the threaded part of the shaft. Very reasonable at $1.25 each. m My helm has the smallest ones, prt-3, and they look great! Still considering the greaves. Do you have any more pics of them? How much shaping do they have? From what I can see, they are not just plain gutter shaped?

Go to a home improvement store or lumber yard and get some steel pallet banding. They throw it away after they unpack the skids of merchandise. It's usually 3/4" wide, but i've also picked up some wider stuff that was 1" or 1 1/4" from Home Depot. It was used on the skids of chain lin...

The legs look good. My suggestion is to loose the covered elbows on the arms, they look very fake to me. Steel elbows would help the illusion that the rest of the arm harness is splinted leather. The plastic covered elbow just makes the whole thing look fau to me.

Clean it with alcohol, or something else that will evaporate and not leave any residue. Do not get fingerprints on it as you put it in the oven, they will show up in the finish. Not sure if Eric has any of the A.A. discounted que slots available, but he does have them up on Ebay for a heavily discounted price. Not quite as nice a deal as he offered here, but a lot less than he normally charges.

I also think the chinstrap is the culprit. I will take some pics of my old helm when I get home to show you how I think you can fix the problem. It will be a lot easier to explain with pics.
