Does anyone have one? How do you like it? How heavily is it padded, and what kind of fabric and stuffing are used in it's construction? Would you recommend it , or something else for someone on a budget?

Conal, They are the top ones in this pic. m You cut off the threaded part and peen them over like any other cast brass vervelle. I cant remember if you need to run a drill through them or if the hole goes all the way through. Master Cad would know. I think it's a hell of a deal for $1.25 a piece. <a...
Well, this may not be the most popular opinion, but ashcraft baker helms are great for starter / loaner gear. Not the prettiest helm, but solidly built and very servicable. m $105 for a helm with a removable grill and a 12 gauge top. It also appears that they are no longer using spun bowls, or they ...
I'm just glad to see it found a good home! So, who had it before you? Just curious. FYI, speaking from personal experience with that setup, you can get a charcoal fire REALLY hot with that electric blower. I turned my back on it for a few seconds and melted a file I was trying to anneal to make a kn...
You can build a mail aventail without using the expanding ring method. Basically it's 4 rectangles of maille and 4 triangular pieces woven together. The triangles are in the front, back and on the sides, over the shoulders, with the point facing up. Like this: [ ] / \ [ ] / \ [ ] / \ [ ] / \
Jim,
You are going to need a rheostat (speed control), for the electric blower on the portable forge. Shoot me an email or a P.M. here and I can tell you how I did it when I had the forge. Or I can build you one for the cost of materials. It's not that hard to do.
Wow, I wondered what happened to all of my old forge stuff! Where did you get it from? I wouldn't mind having that steel dish back, if you'd care to part with it. I wonder what ever happened to my old railroad track anvil. The extra parts are all for a built in forge, and do not belong to the portab...
Scorpus,
You have great taste in armour! That is the same helm I 've been eyeballing for a while now. Super spif design. Could you take some pics of the inside of the helm? I'm interested in the hinges and inside views of the cheek plates and integral bar grill.
D., my household has a similar tradition of not wearing a sword until you get Knighted. Years ago, we took to carying maces and other nasty looking bits of non-sword hardware. Might be worth a thought!
