I suggest using the term prototype for these pieces. It basically cuts the required delivery date cr@p out of communication. You never make your money on any of these. (Example: The Dou I am working on after materials costs I'm making approx $.75 [yes that's 75 cents!] an hour but it IS a prototype)...

Arrgh!
Possibly off topic but....... The armour from hell. Every armourer has one of these. An order that continually has problems. Evil- merlin's Dou IS coming along but every step forward, I get a half step back. The maruhimo (round lace) for the suspensory cords FINALLY arrived yesterday. Of course, som...

Aaron, I do all the metalwork at my shop in Thailand. I'm not there often, so I don't take orders often. Most recent completed piece is Gustav's Ogekawa Dou (If you've been playing with Avalon you've probably seen it). A complete dou with kusazuri and kohire is 110,000 yen. A word of advice NEVER of...

I hope *my* comments weren`t taken as too aggressive. I gave information from my knowledge as clearly as possible. The comments at the end were simply a subtle reminder to customers that the shoe fits on both feet. I *do* have a list of people I won`t do business with regardless of monies offered. D...

I can't speak for wages in India. In Thailand minimum wage for labour is 175 baht a day. ( roughly $4 a day) Make it $100 a month (that's what we pay the nanny). In context my wife who has a US MA makes $300 a month teaching at the University. That's after 9 years at said Uni. The costs of businesse...

Actually it's at the junior high where I work, The lining and edging IS silk. It's a very coarse weave kind of crepe I guess. Hyaku yen scraps at the local fabric store. The wool however was NOT cheap. I delivered it to Iwao-san yesterday and he seems quite pleased. Hopefully he'll have pics for me ...

Sode? Probably when I get pics of Iwao-san with it AND his kabuto. Next? Lacing Guillaume"s Kon-ito Ogekawa Dou. After that, Eff"s kabuto or MY nuinobe dou. The Kikko are traditional and not. The face IS wool with silk borders and the interior is handwoven hemp and washi. The plates are ABS and NOT ...

China is in the midst of an industrial revolution the likes of which the world has never seen. They are building entirely new industrial cities to entice industries to locate there. Dirt cheap labour, new facilities, what's not to like? Except that in all likelihood they'll nationalize everything 10...

Sorry folks. I haven't been online much lately. I didn't get the bargrill or the powdercoating done, so it's sitting in the shop back in Thailand. As always, I'm back to the no work space problem here in Japan. I was considering having them mass produced, if I can get them made cheap enough. Is ther...

Actually, I think Johannes has the closest to the truth. Most of the full-time armourers are businessmen first, craftsmen second, and artisans third. (This is NOT a bad thing.) Many others are artisans first and therein lies the problem. Good business sense is "Get it there, 1st time, on time, every...

Noe? He's fuzzy and he smells bad..... at least his gambeson does. Want someone who will fight until he pukes, wipe the puke off and continue as long as hearts are beating? Noe is your man. Read his signature line....it's appropriate. On top of all that he's a great guy. (DISCLAIMER: the above state...

Actually this is more about discussions on the other dou posting. For those who bewail thier lack of armouring ability, there is a fairly simple solution. Nanban gusoku. Nanban are the armours refitted from european armours(or copied). It wouldn't be difficult to modify one of Illusion armoury's glo...
