NOTE: I am NOT defending bad business practices. The idea that "Oh well, he can just sell it to someone else" only floats on generic items. I recently (finally) sold a nice suji kabuto. WAAAY underpriced for the work that went into it. It sat in a box for over a year because the person it was made f...

I am pleased to hear that it is holding up. No matter how long you armour you always worry about longevity......especially in prototypes. As for the weight issue, after I get a shop up and running here, I plan to do more with High carbon so some parts could be reduced to 16 ga.

Indeed some Kyuudo masters have said this. It's interesting when the heads of entire schools (not individual dojos) though say that this is wrong. That "those" teachers have lost the Way.

Maybe your friend has it confused with Eastern armours. In Japan, RARELY, a fairly hard face was forge welded to a soft back. A hard face but denting rather than cracking does have a few advantages. :)

Perhaps I was unclear. I am not disparaging Zen. I AM disparaging the widespread belief that Kyuudo IS Zen archery. (Much like Effingham and his unceasing efforts to stamp out the bamboo armour myth). People tend to add too much mysticism to zen. At it's heart it's simple. If you type without lookin...

Herrigel is an idiot. There is no Zen to Japanese archery. There are some similar elements but Kyuudo is NOT Zen. Some Zen practitioners use kyuudo as thier koan of choice, but that is no different from staring at a flame or contemplating a question which has no answer. It simply adds a physical ele...

Hmmm, I haven't fought in so long..... Depends on many factors. Is this someone who knows my combos? Someone who covers well on the onside until you make an opening? A lefty? If I am testing someone's reactions, an on-side beginning is pretty much standard. I'm always amazed when an opening series a...

Theo, Unfortunately, it sounds like you' re a small large. (In Ansteorra we have Large Larges). I'm 6' 175lbs and E-Merlin is a tad shorter and roughly the same weight. As it'll be scanned and laser-cut, I could possibly increase the size a bit if you're serious about ordering one. Average build is ...

I wonder what shipping over here will run? Considering how messy guys at the wild horse round-up get, some might be interested in a Dou you can take to the car wash to clean. 8)

OK, here's the deal. I am looking at making a number of Ogekawa-dou this vacation (July-August) if there is enough interest. The initial plan is 1mm high carbon steel powder coated in either black or red with silk lacing and steel kohaze (if Trevor has any left, otherwise buffalo horn). IF you are m...

The order is only 10 years old. Has it really been 10 years? Damn I'm old. Fighting with Sir Syf was one certain way to train to protect your leg, otherwise you PAID. I remember blasting one of her squires in the leg and giving him what for because I KNEW his knight had a better leg shot than I did.

I would have put a solid shita-jikoro on it myself just to prevent any grousing by overzealous marshals but I DO believe it's safe. ( a TINY nit, it needs wider lacing. The holes are pl...
