earlier I wrote a post in here that I had to delete because I was so tired I coudn't even tell what it was I tried to type. Being more awake now, nice stuff. Particularly the bellows visor, for a first attempt at one that's amiazing. Generaly my first attempt at anything as complicated as that realy...

It ought to fit you well enough, Maille can do a lot of contracting, however depending on how the sleeves are made, a big shirt like this may put some extra weight on your arms when you move them. (note if you're willing to do some taloring, cutting a strip out of the front and the back would quickl...

arrrrrrrrrgh, I can't believe that, I've been making sca armour too long. I origionaly started out with the idea that I'd never make anything that woud not stand up to real weapons. I've made some concessions on this due to customer requests, but now it's gone too far, when I looked at that gorget m...

Here's a quick question, think about it for a bit.... When is the last time you saw someone do a cartwheel or a handspring in SCA legal plate armor? 2 weeks ago Now, think about WHY. well i think he wanted to impress people with the flexability of a well made suit. you can see pics here. http://www....

Now, i'm not advocating doing this, so don't jump all over me and pound me, but It seems to me, that unless someone were going to make a lot of plate armour this way, It would actualy be cheaper to buy authentic armour in poor condition (you do see some for sale ocationaly) beat it down, forge weld ...

Well I guess I'm one of us. I armour as often as i get free time, I started blacksmithing when I was 15-16, got into bladesmithing sometime before 18 (I remember thinking well if they won't let me buy swords, by golly I'll make them) A few years later I lost access to the forge, and didn't know what...

SwordDancer, you have to make mistakes before we can give you constructive critiquing. The closest I could come to a constructive comment, is, depending on the person wearing it, a rolled edge at the neck can be prefered. However the flaired edge is sometimes better too. (I'm assuming the edge is fl...

rivited maille for sale at auction (xpost)
The construction board wasn't realy the best place to put this up, but I figured someone who might want a nice supply of rivited maille for gussets, and aventails, might be interested. and I know a lot of you don't regularly hit the for sale board. so check out the post there, visit the web page for...

Rivited maille for sale on auction board
go here for pics. http://www.geocities.com/ebenezum.geo/rivited.html although it's somewhat worn, this is still a nice hauberk, and would be a nice addition to someone's kit. I and the owner figured we'd give the folks here at the archive first shop at it, if the reserve isn't met, then we'll try e-...

since they answered the other questions I'll take the rolling and sunken edge ones. Rolling can be done either way, most people find rolling easier befor the piece is finished, but some do it after. If you do do it before, care must be taken while you curve a already rolled piece, not the crease the...

only thing i can recomend is lots of trying differnt methods. I've rolled edges before, and seen others do it, and seldom did any one person use the same method as the other. Some spend a lot of time with a chisle, and put a V all the way along the edge, and gentely tap the steel untill the edge rol...

definalty one of the harbor freight punches, they're selling at $9 bucks now. old weight lifting weights can function as an anvil like surface for pounding. if you can find any old fire extinguishers, you might be able to get a steel dishing form cheap. However the absolutely most usefull tool in my...

Harold, I'm not Sasha (if I were I bet his family would be upset) but I think I can handle this one. Iron's hardness (iron with no carbon content) is not affected by a heat treatment, Iron that is case hardened, forms a thin (sometimes up to 1/16th) surface of very high carbon steel, case hardened s...

Wombat, the place i've seen those pliers (a scrap yard) gets a lot of supplies from Boeing, raythion, and i can't remember the other aircraft plant. I generaly get up there once a month or so to buy leather (mismatched colors from raythion private jets) or stainless scrap, I'm definatly going to see...

Ugh, I realy hat HF's inconsistancy in pricing, I bought a load of those at $12 and when i realy needed them gotten them at $16-$19 Even though I'm poor right now I can't pass up getting at least one more at $9 Note for those who did not notice, this is the metric version, not realy a problem for me...

some of the stuff was quite nice, and the prices seem quite reasonable. The only thing I can suggest is a little more detail in the descriptions, a couple of things i was wondering when I saw some pieces, is what are the padded jackets made from? and what are they stuffed with? also, the scale shirt...

hmmm, mostly guessing here but, mild steel the rivited one would run between $150-$200 but perhaps as high as $350 however the 2 month time period would be tough for many armourers. And you may be looking at spending more money to get it quickly. note museum replicas offers one that i've heard good ...

well you could use a roller mill to flatten the wire befor eyou coil it ($300) or you could use an arbor press to flatten them after being coild and cut ($30) I've used the press and if well mounted, with a cheater bar on it, it flattens rings well, although sometimes the overlaped part will slide d...

Jim Hiraslous does great work, however make sure he knows exactly what you want, if he gets the impression you want a sword to beat around he'll make it heavier than historical weight. There have been a couple of cases where what he thought a customer said wasn't what the customer thought they said ...

don't know the places aroud where you are, but I get all my washers and burs for 30-90 cents a lb at the local scrap yard, they have rivits as well, but unfortunatly often not the ones I want. Might be worth seeing if there's a scrap place near you that would be simular. note, often the period burs ...

a couple other advantages for this shear. it cuts faster than a jig saw (at least faster than mine) and it costs a third as much as a good jig saw. (i've used a $20 jigsaw for armour, and it cut very little steel before it died) also I went through enough jig saw blades before it died to have bought...
