10 months isn't odd for armour, most of the better armourys range between 3 months to a year. Some much longer, some shorter, however generaly unless you are buying in stock items, and sometimes even then, you pay for the quick delivery, either with more money, or less quality.

It ought to fit you well enough, Maille can do a lot of contracting, however depending on how the sleeves are made, a big shirt like this may put some extra weight on your arms when you move them. (note if you're willing to do some taloring, cutting a strip out of the front and the back would quickl...

I've made some concessions on this due to customer requests, but now it's gone too far, when I looked at that gorget m...

Here's a quick question, think about it for a bit.... When is the last time you saw someone do a cartwheel or a handspring in SCA legal plate armor? 2 weeks ago Now, think about WHY. well i think he wanted to impress people with the flexability of a well made suit. you can see pics here. http://www....

i've never found wool to be too hot, but I know nothing about camel hair.

I'd go with either the all cotton, or the wool/camel hair blend, or as a third option I'd try to find some cheap all cotton towels and cut them up
you realy want to avoid the 20% poly stuff

Now, i'm not advocating doing this, so don't jump all over me and pound me, but It seems to me, that unless someone were going to make a lot of plate armour this way, It would actualy be cheaper to buy authentic armour in poor condition (you do see some for sale ocationaly) beat it down, forge weld ...

I armour as often as i get free time, I started blacksmithing when I was 15-16, got into bladesmithing sometime before 18 (I remember thinking well if they won't let me buy swords, by golly I'll make them) A few years later I lost access to the forge, and didn't know what...

SwordDancer, you have to make mistakes before we can give you constructive critiquing. The closest I could come to a constructive comment, is, depending on the person wearing it, a rolled edge at the neck can be prefered. However the flaired edge is sometimes better too. (I'm assuming the edge is fl...

rivited maille for sale at auction (xpost)

The construction board wasn't realy the best place to put this up, but I figured someone who might want a nice supply of rivited maille for gussets, and aventails, might be interested. and I know a lot of you don't regularly hit the for sale board. so check out the post there, visit the web page for...

go here for pics. http://www.geocities.com/ebenezum.geo/rivited.html although it's somewhat worn, this is still a nice hauberk, and would be a nice addition to someone's kit. I and the owner figured we'd give the folks here at the archive first shop at it, if the reserve isn't met, then we'll try e-...

since they answered the other questions I'll take the rolling and sunken edge ones. Rolling can be done either way, most people find rolling easier befor the piece is finished, but some do it after. If you do do it before, care must be taken while you curve a already rolled piece, not the crease the...

I forgot one method i'd seen, and likely the easiest yet, but also the most expensive. you can take a piece of steel that ecactly matches the shap of your piece, and fold the edge over it, pull the extra piece out, and finish the roll. (i hope that description makes sence.)

only thing i can recomend is lots of trying differnt methods. I've rolled edges before, and seen others do it, and seldom did any one person use the same method as the other. Some spend a lot of time with a chisle, and put a V all the way along the edge, and gentely tap the steel untill the edge rol...

i'd say middle of the handle, and don't just butt weld it, split the tang into a V and then sharpen the piece you're welding on to where it will fit into the V and weld it that way. If that makes no sence I think I can show you a pic of what I'm talking about.
