Harold don't feel bad, everyone here is learning, I've been here since the beginning, and every day I come here I learn more. Ocationaly I'm lucky enough to be able to help someone, or correct a misconception, sometimes I unintentionaly misinform someone and get corrected myself. While I do like hel...

I can't tell without looking at the the rolls, (and perhaps not even then) but as a wild guess combined with the fact that it looks almost sorta like somthing I once saw when I was realy young. Could it be for making wire? or for shaping wire? half round square, etc? I'll print off these pics and as...

oops that should have been anneal before heating and quenching. quenching a cold annealed sword would insure it not warping, but wouldn't do much in the way of hardening. Yep scrap steel can be fun, I've gotten everything fron nicely spiraled blades (they look nice but not even vaguely swordlike) to...

It also seems to help if you make sure it's fully annealed before quenching. I've seen a lot of swords, even those not differential tempered warp badly if this isn't done.

note if case hardened since you are not going to quench the sword annealing isn't needed.

Glen I'm afraid you simply arn't heavy enough.

However It is a good price, and having bought/traded things with Glen before, he is actualy very easy to deal with. Unless of course, you sell him a battle ready sword that can be tied into a knot.

sounds about right to me. 16 gauge stainless is a bit tough to bunch with a stock HF punch, like gundo mentioned the side peices can open, additionaly the bolt bt the side peices will bend slightly making it tougher and tougher to punch, you'll end up adjusting the lower screw up higher and higher. ...

I get my stainless scrap also, it runs about 40-80 cents a pound depending on type. luckaly the guy at the scrap yard I go to knows what type is what. The least expensive I get is 305 series stainless and is fullly hardened,(that's why it's cheap, not a lot of people want hardened steel scrap) great...

If you dan't use the steel the auto spark wears down the consumables prety quick, and cut quality goes down big time. Sigh I burned out a full set ...
