There are lots of opinions on this one. While for a long time the prevailing viewpoint was that what was origionaly interperated as ring maille was actualy just a differnt method of drawing regular maille, recently there has been some questions about this, namely why did they draw what looked like r...

The biggest complaint I've hear of Kettle hats is that solid hits to the edge of the brim toss your head around a bit and can lead to a sore neck, other than that it realy was a very common helm for a long time in history, but seems very uncommon in the sca. many pics of Joaquin in armour, combanation of Wise Ogre wor
Ok, as Joaquin sometimes does he came by to visit me today, and we took pictures. here is Joaquin in his harness. Joaquine wanted me to mention that he would not at all mind if any of these pics were used for the members pic page. This is probably the absolute best pic. [img]http://www.geocities.com...

hey Lord Charles,
Hi, I've been asked to concider putting together some rivited Maille for a fellow archive member and was wondering what your price for preoverlapped mild steel 18 gauge 1/4 id rings would be. (didn't see 18 gauge mild steel mentioned on your site) also wondered if you might know of a source for simu...

Ahhh, that explains the confusion. Case hardening requires long term baking of steel surrounded by somthing that is high in carbon and without any exposure to air. It has been done by leaving steel wrapped in leather or burried in charcoal or wood chips in an air tight steel box in a kiln for severa...

I think some of the problem is the speed at which this board runs, Often i won't answer a question because i know I'm not the best person to do so, (i suspect others have the same reasons) however sometimes before the person who can best answer the question does show up the post gets booted to the s...

Harold, you might want to check your description, I suspect you may have left somthing out. It looks as if you were describing a method of diferential tempering, but to follow your directions as you put them down would leave you with a soft, rather than a hard edge. I assume it was just a typo on yo...

The way I made mine I made both sides match and meet at the spine. here are some pics of the Wisby type III I made. Note the guy wearing it is not me, and is much smaller than the armour was made for. I believe there were several pillows under the armour to make it fit at all for the photos. [img]ht...

Yes It was glazing points!!!! as for the length of the holes, the end of the hole I insert the rivit into is just barely smaller than the wedge, perhaps 3/32 of an inch long, and the other endo of the hole is just barely peirced. What I was trying to say was the second option, that if the hole didn'...

roughly 1/8th inch wide, and about 1/8th inch long, however looking at my wedges It looks like most of them are just a hair longer than wide, but not by much. Sigh I wish I could remember what those clips were, I think I remember them being a great deal, I think it equaled several thousand wedges fo...

right now I'm using 16 gauge for the links and little peices of scrap from plate armouring for the rivits, most of the rivit wedges would be 16-18 gauge. also the rivits are just about perfect isosceles triangles. however there is a cheap premade source for these wedge rivits. Steve came up with the...

what type of riviting are you doing? wedge or pin? also how are you setting rivits? with tongs or hammer? additionaly if using tongs are you using flat tongs or tongs with an indentation in them for the rivit? I've had the fold over problem in both pin and wedge rivit maille. with pin rivits it was ...

I've done some copper rivited maille, I started playing with it because it was easier to flatten, but discivered it was tougher to rivit, due to the "stickyness" of the metal. as for hou tough it was, well It held up to weapon testing against steel weapons just as well as the steel rivited maille did.
