We had to put the family golden's down roughly 14 & 16 years ago, and I still miss them. Still have photos around 'cause they will be with me forever.
Very sorry to hear of your loss

Gregory, my understanding is that the term claymore is just a word for sword. I own two claymores, a five foot two-handed, unwieldy bastard and the second is a basket hilt claymore. One of my Osprey books on the Scottish has a great drawing of a guy with a basket hilt claymore in his right hand, a t...

the first helm has 2 bids on it and it's alreay up to $1.04 I'd give him $3.50 for it just for the shear joy I would take in smashing the hell out of it. I've been thinking about buying one of the crappy 18g indian helms to convert to a fencing helmet and our Baronial colors are green & black what d...

Karl, Since no one has mentioned this before, this is quit a commendable thing that you are doing selling off your possessions to aid a friend in you. You obviously cared enough about the game to acquire quality goods and the fact that you are putting these items up without thought to help someone e...

I have to agree with Jacob, go with an armoured surcoat of the St Maurice style and dump the coat of plates. If you go with the COP I would use a surcoat. Chainmail is tough to pack up for a road trip, if you do go with aluminium rivet type. For legs I use gamboised cuisses that have washing machine...

I picked up three books at a local library sale and was wondering who accurate a source they are.

John, check out White Mountain Armoury (whitemountainarmoury.com), Alan makes... in my opinion.... the coolest SCA legal kettle in existance. On his helmet page he has photos of his designs (all seven variations) and he has one in stock now that he is building the cage for. Hope that helps, if you s...

changed the padding again and now the height is much lower but the helm is still to wide. If you look in my yahoo folder listed in the post above you will see that even though the helmet is now down almost to my shoulders when I pivot my head it still gaps quit a bit, enough I could easily get a swo...

Alan, I will email you copies of the photos. The two big factors are how I had to pad it to make it comfortable and the width. With the helm designed to sit "back" I had to add a lot more padding to the top of the helm then I normally would to get it to sit on my head and distribute the weight, with...

Thanks Sir Vitus. Just the lighting, they are spring steel with a satin finish and a coat of blue magic wax on them. They need to have a good buffing to the the wax coating off. No, I don't want to modify the legs. At this point I think my best course of action for me is to sell these and use the money to buy a helme...

and on a side note, the legs are illegal for me as well because they aren't deep enough. As you can see in the inside shot now that've spent two hours strapping them without any padding under them the inside of the knee cop is JUST covering the third point. Even with just the minimum 1/4" padding it...

A quick bump before I go to bed for the night, I have to work 7 to 3 tomorrow. First, Alan chech your PM's. I spent Thursday night sewing and stuffing a padded hood to fill the gaps. I put 1/2 inch of blue foam in the helmet itself, and a 1/2 inch of cotton batting into the hood and the helm just do...

Hey Adam,
Here in Buffalo I always go to M Steffan & Sons, Linda the owner is in the SCA. She's on-line at www.steffanleather.com she doesn't list leather on her web page but has a lot in stock. Let her know that you're in the SCA and she'll cut you a deal.

All, Alan & I have conversed both via PM and on the phone. Rearranging the padding in the helmet a bit per his guidance seems to make it fit better though the gap between the interior of my helmet and my gorget is substantial enough that I need to get the padding done and then see. I won't have time...

actually the helmet is sized wrong and the articulation on the right leg is crooked. Alan took the measurements himself at Harvest Raid last April when we sat down face to face. I'm going to think on this, I may be able to come up with a way to add padding and an internal aventail or something that ...
