You're going to loose some of the heat treat in the process but not all of it. Hot working temperature of aluminum is pretty low. As in your gas barbeque is perfect. Thought I might add that there are several other options for a fauld on a 14th century breastplate as well. There's the covered route with a fauld that has the lames on the inside. There's also an example in aaomk of a regular fauld if you look reeeeeely close.
