Dammit I was writing a big reply and it up and dissapeared on me. Anyway I just creatively swung a regular ball pien. I plan on making a long one. I've got the extra ball pien I just need to get around to cutting off the ball and going over to my brother's place to weld it back on with a piece of me...

Or if someone posts begging to chat other times of the day a couple people usually show up.

The two helmets I finished on the weekend.

Well I was really busy on the weekend. Basically binging after not being able to armour for so long. Anyway I managed to finish 2 helmets. They're my first helmets so they're not very good. But I thought I'd show em off anyway and hopefully get some comments good and bad. The first one is a greathel...

Ditto on the solid rivits. I seem to manage fine in my 70+ pound harness. But I am also fairly slim and strong. It does take some practice to get used to wearing armour. You also need to drink LOTS of water. My hauberk weighs 20# with a trans. harness especially I recommend using rings that are 5/16...

Plate arm and leg defences are historically viable options too. I've got an effigy with a guy wearing plate arms and legs and bascinet and in his hand he's holding a sugarloaf with horns as a helmet crest.

Take a look at Norman's CoP topic on the authenticity board. That's where he's gathering info and discussing wether or not the CoP would be from Italy or not. IIRC a Corrizina should work I don't remember the time period for sure but I'm pretty sure it's good. Basically I'd say you can argue the sug...

Take a look at the CoP in the german transitional section of my site. It can be easily adapted to fit her by making the plates narrower as they go towards the waist. Then the plates under the dags will protect those hips that stick out and want to get hit. The pattern's really simple to figure out. ...

If you were on my waiting list PLS read!

Ok if you were on the list you know that my waiting list was a forum which was run by cool-boards. I went to check on the list today since I'll be able to start a plate comission soon (thumb's healing nicely). And was horrified to find that coolboards had shut down. Well I'm bad for names but if you look in Brian Price's book you'll find it. There's a guy in Europe who makes armour using only medieval tools. BTW if you put one handle of the aviation snips in a vice and then put a nice big cheater bar on the other handle it makes cutting with them a lot easier. ...

Anyone ever think of using a jackhammer for dishing?

I've thought about it before. Electric 35 pounders can generally be had for about $350 on e-bay. All you'd need to do is build a stand to hold it. Put a dishing form underneath, put a mushroom stake made from a hex bar instead of square in it and rig something to hold the trigger down. Then just tur...

The main reason why maille doesn't sell well on e-bay is that most of it is total crap. I've seen shirts made from 18gauge with 3/8" rings. also 16gauge with 1/2" rings etc. etc. Also it's generally badly tailored. Ie. coifs with a big bean on the top etc. Also with maille one size does not fit all....

I trim so that after you stick the rivit through the material you're riviting there's the same amount as the diameter of the rivit sticking through. So if you've got a 1/8" dia rivit shaft you trim so there's 1/8" of rivit sticking out after you put it through the material. The only other thing to d...
