Tom: The effigy of Ritter Burkhard Von Steinburg c 1379. Mostly as well as some inspiration from a few others. Yes I know that the plates on those sabatons overlap in the opposite direction from what I did but there are a few reasons why I did it this way. 1. I didn't really want to articulate them ...

Well that is true but it's true of 15th c and later sabatons. And as you can see in my sig I'm the budding mid 14th century guy. These are basically late 14th century sabatons. http://www.crosswinds.net/~mad666matt/sabthor6.html At the above page of my site you will see another pair similar to these...

Malaki you posted while I was typing. Sabatons are worn on the feet. Now that I've said that I'll bet they look a lot more foot shaped don't they? Course with nothing in the picture to reference them to so you can see the size of them it's probably a pretty easy mistake to make for someone new to ar...

Well I think the sabaton specialization thing was completly accidental. It's my fault for offering them fairly cheap. Course these ones are probably gonna be around $150 or so but there is a style I make for $75. Besides this is only style number 5. Actually I like making all these different sabaton...

Yet another style of sabatons (pics of unfinished)
Ok well yup yet another style. I took some pics of one of them. Well the pieces of one of them anyway. They're basically just sitting there on their own but positioned sorta like they would be when assembled. Still needs to be rivited together and strapped and hinged. Anyway took the pics to show Dk...

Umm. POD didn't you make yourself a pair of mittens. With mittens you don't need a basket and a cross-hilt will do just fine. Or use a mace with no basket or cross. Or an axe. This is for SCA right? I'm assuming you don't urgently need a basket for the swordsmen. ------------------ The budding mid 1...

Burrs are only necessary where a rivit goes through leather and in articulation rivits. Burrs are just a fancy word for a washer that tightly fits onto the shaft of the rivit. Ie. you don't need any in a helmet. Other then for a chinstrap. The spangen panels butt together or come close to butting to...

Besegews generally just hang from a leather strap that attaches to the spaulder. Or they can be pointed to your arming coat. Get some neets foot oil and as you work the leather back and forth soak it with the oil. That'll help loosen it up. ------------------ The budding mid 14th century German Tran...

Umm huh? Murdock if the armpits are comming apart it's a tailoring issue. It's the easiest place to screw up and if you screw it up then it'll always come apart. I use 5/16" id 16gauge. Spaulders are ok. You're just 1370 if they've got more then one piece. I personally think that splinted arms and legs with steel lames for articulation look silly. And they don't provide any better range of motion. You could do solid steel vam and rearbraces which are actually fairly easy and work w...
