Actually if it's butted maille. Put a piece of leather lace (or shoelace) through the top row of rings in the aventail. Then sew that lace onto the leather strip. This way you don't get the funny looking top row of rings sticking out at a right angle. ------------------ The budding mid 14th century ...

Hold on just a minute here. You're CUTTING holes for the rivits? BAD BAD idea. This'll make your brig fall apart much faster unless you're sewing the edges of said holes. You're using nails. A nail will seperate the threads in your fabric and just push on through. Much more durable then cutting hole...

Take your shotput to an industrial fasteners place. Your shotput should have a plug in it. The plug screws out and there'll be a bunch of shot inside which is used to get the weight exact. Take out the plug and buy a big bolt with the right threads for the shotput. And your shotput is now a stake. T...

That discoloration is just on the surface. A wire wheel or buffer or sandpaper will remove it quickly. Use a file on the edges. You can't get a smooth enough edge with a grinder. Cut shape then roll. If you roll before shaping you'll just screw up your roll and it'll be harder to shape. You will wan...

ScottC actually rolling the edges and then shaping the piece is the wrong way to do it. If you do that you'll end up screwing up your roll. Now I haven't actually done any rolled edges yet.
